I thought about doing it myself here, but my guide is definitely written for an intermediate audience, or at least one who reaaaally enjoys character building.
<p>Although... The first 5 basic principles are worth sharing with the kids if they are building unsupervised. Either verbally, or even a printout with just the bolded first sentence. <p>AoN's explicit charter is to provide all the rules, for free, to anyone who wants to use them. For people who are just getting started, it can be overwhelming, but for dipping in to check out a rule or a class or a background, it's awesome. </p>

<p>I don't know what tools you have available to you but I think in a situation like that I would use a projector to go over the character creation process in the core rulebook together as an activity but start by reading the cover page of each class first. Than do an fill out each step together until you are all done and have a character.</p>
<p>It also might be beneficial to see if there is anyone in your community or school who is familiar with the game to help you out.</p>
