Poaching blasts.

Kineticist Class

We won't know for sure until we get to look at the dedication but I'm a little worried that classes that get static bonuses to damage like thaumaturge and inventor will make better use of blasting than the kineticist. Making it it's own action rather than a standard strike is a decent solution to reign in the more cheesey poaching but plenty of classes can use regular attacks just fine. Is this a reasonable concern?

With how restrictive 2E has been in terms of poaching abilities from other classes and making better use of them, I wouldn't be too worried about this.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Mortal Weakness/Personal Antithesis works with unarmed and weapon Strikes: elemental blasts aren't either.
Implement's Empowerment requires not holding anything in either hand other than a single one-handed weapon, other implements, or esoterica: gather elements occupies your hand.

Inventor though could add Overdrive but it's another action and kineticist is already action starved.

I'm almost certain that the dedication will grant elemental blasts since there's really not much else the dedication could give based on what the class looks like now. They're basic attacks that are roughly martial tier so I don't think it would be too good. The issue is that the kineticist so far doesn't have a lot to do with them aside from some high level feats. Other classes could potentially make better use of them. My hope is that another core feature could put it above what other classes could do with a basic blast.

I keep forgetting about hand rules on the thaumaturge. Gathering your element could just be done outside of combat like holding a weapon. I saw on another thread that the dedication might not have gather as an action but have adapt element which would make it a lot more difficult to swap back to in combat if you need to drop it for some reason.

Hmm... one fun combo might be a flurry ranger with double prey and blast barrage. Might be the only good application of double prey on a flurry ranger.
