Furious Grab Question and more

Does Furious Grab (Feat 12) count to my multiple attack penalty?

Another Question:
About feats like Furious Grab that has its lines like "The foe you hit becomes grabbed, as if you had succeeded at an Athletics check to Grapple the foe."

Does feats like these count as an acctually skill action for the porposes of interections with other feats like Brutal Bully for example?

Examples of feats descriptios like Furius Grab: Barbarian Knockback (Feat 10) and Fighter Improved Knockdown (Feat 10).

That's actually a very good question.

My instinct is that it should both progress MAP and interact with other abilities that interact with grapple checks.

Basically the idea is that Furious Grab is using Athletics(grapple) as a subordinate action, but modifying it so that you don't have to roll the check - you just automatically succeed at the check.

However, it doesn't actually say that. So it could be argued that the ability doesn't use Athletics(grapple) at all - it just references that action to describe its own effect. At that point it would both not progress MAP (since the Furious Grab action doesn't have the Attack trait) and wouldn't interact with other abilities that trigger with Athletics(grapple).

Either ruling is supported by the rules, but I prefer the subordinate action Athletics check ruling.

So basically, you can't have it both ways (having no MAP progression, but where it does interact with other abilities).

Yeah I can also see this rule working both ways.

Yeah i got it. These two questions came up after I read the third errata of the core rulebook. specifically in the improved knockdown part where they talk about ambiguity.

MAP increases when you take attack actions. Furious Grab is an action. The action is not an attack action. It doesn't increase MAP.

The "as if" clause refers to and describes the grab itself. For rules that examine the grab and discuss its behaviors, it is the same sort of grab you would have if you'd successfully grappled. However, the "successful grapple" doesn't exist in any other context, and therefore doesn't trigger things like Brutal Bully.
