[Error] Duplicate Feat name - different effects!

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Dear Paizo,

The Keep Pace feat is both defined in the Advanced Player’s Guide and in the Quest for the Frozen Flame - 01 - Broken Tusk Moon adventure.

Both have different definitions, different prerequisites...

I highly advise against doing this! Feats should be unique - and not have multiple definitions. Right?

Your prey can't escape. Stride up to your Speed, following the foe and keeping it in reach throughout its movement until it stops moving or you've moved your full Speed. You can use Keep Pace to Burrow, Climb, Fly, or Swim instead of Stride if you have the corresponding movement type.

When your hunted prey tries to bolt, you follow. You can use Keep Pace to Burrow, Climb, Fly, or Swim instead of Stride if you have the appropriate movement type.

Other than requiring different archetype dedication feats (since they're from different archetypes), their prerequisites are identical, and they both have the same trigger. Game Hunter's Keep Pace has some slightly different flavor text and wording (an extra "You" and some word substitutions), but nothing significant. They don't have different effects.

This seems like more of a clarification on terminology. Both dedications grant Hunt Prey, so Keep Pace was probably meant to only be used with your Hunted Prey. The wording on the Bounty Hunter version could be construed as being used against any "foe" since the mention of prey is in the flavor text and trigger, but not as explicitly said in the description of the mechanics.

I could see this being more in line with a stealth errata where the text for Bounty Hunter might be altered in the future. But that's just my two cents; there are people far more dedicated to parsing such things around here that might see things differently.

There are a few instances of feats with identical names elsewhere; AoN will simply denote them with their source player option in those cases.

See Reckless Abandon and Reckless Abandon (Goblin), or Tree Climber (Goblin) and Tree Climber (Elf).
