Vesk Name Question

I've got a Vesk character I've named "Kamlesh-Raydan." Just wondering how people should generally address him. This name together would be his given name, right? So someone just calling him "Mr. Raydan" wouldn't be correct because it's not actually his family name?

To be honest I imagine Vesk names to be a lot like Klingon names.

For example, Worf's full name would Worf, son of Mogh, of the House of Martok.

So your character's name could be give name, son/daughter of parent, of house/trib/clutch.

Also, other characters addressing Vesk incorrectly is likely to happen in the world setting, especially for characters that come from cultures that use naming systems similar to those found in "Western" culture of the world.

I thought it was something along those lines, yes, with the specific stipulation mentioned in the Corebook that most vesk names are usually some combo of that vesk's parents' names, so clearly one of his parents is a Kamlesh of some sort and the other is a Raydan or Raydenaza or somesuch.

Either way, I was on the right track. Thanks, Claxon!

I have either stolen the names of Linnorms/dragons throughout media, or used Latin naming conventions.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think vesk go into a big hatchery so parentage isn't nearly as important. though the nice thing about starfinder, the universe is so big "thats how they do it on my planet" is a plausible explanation )

Quote:
Vesk names are often long and combine elements of their parents’ names, as well as those of other prominent ancestors. These are frequently shortened for daily use by friends, though abridging a vesk’s name without permission is a grave insult. In addition, some vesk take on epithets related to their victories in combat, which they sometimes use in addition to or in place of a family name, such as “Three Guns,” “Voidwalker,” or “Squadeater.” Some sample vesk names include Dmotralan, Evdokayo, Goromitali, Julakesh, Katara, Obozaya, Radokama, Sarangari, Sobok, Terikoraz, and Ymeros-Ahandi.

Perhaps you would think so, or perhaps the suggestion for naming contradict other lore. But the naming suggestions specifically say "are often a combo of parents names".

Edit: However it may be resolved by the idea that perhaps biological parentage isn't important, but perhaps the older Vesk who raised you is who the individual considers their parents. And perhaps prominent ancestors could mean anyone raised on the same planet, or from the same "hatchery" if there are multiple hatcheries on the same planet.

Or I could have remembered something wrong. There's a lot of echo up here.
