Is it's a safe assumption that First Edition Society has been flushed down the commode?

You’re probably better off asking the relevant forum.

Or in the relevant region. Or yourself to see if you'd lead the effort.

PFS1 is still available last I checked, it's just that with no new material interest is bound to dry up except in pockets where players have decided they like PF1 enough to keep with what material there is. This includes PF1 APs that could extend PFS1 play for years (I know I want to play some of them still and wouldn't want to force the GM to convert, plus might as well log it in the system as it has no less meaning now than before. Locally I had some players itchin' to play a high-level PF1 module w/ their favorite PCs except real-world issues interfered (and keep doing so). Still might someday.

I believe the system's still in place, though as Keftiu mentioned, the PF2 Forum is not the place for the question, not when there's an actual PFS forum. They might lead you to an online community if there's one active.

It still exists enough for the only LGS around me to refuse to stock 2e material because the one guy who runs 1e PFS there has convinced them that 2e is a failure of a game that nobody plays.

But yes, go to the PFS forum as they can get you whatever you may want or need here.

PF First Edition(PF1) is out there.
Private PFS Org Play games and curated(a VO is involved) games. If a GM wants to run PF1 that's great and your VO will post it if you use a group hosted website for signups (access to existing coordinated player base).

The last Guide and Campaign Clarifications for PF1 came out last year and some APs recently got approved.
While Paizo stopped printing new material there is a ton of resources out there. Archive of Nethys got dubbed an official source thus it's now a resource. You have to use the Help button (upper right on the webpage) to access the PF1 FAQs.
Most people use pdfs as they weigh a LOT LESS and are easier to search and cheaper to buy. The rules for ownership are posted but just keep a screenshot/copy of your downloads page to make it easy.

If by 'flushed' you mean that Paizo has almost entirely moved on to their new 2E version and is not releasing new material for 1E, then yes.

OTOH, if you mean your 1E material no longer works and no one is playing 1E anymore, then no, it has not been flushed. One of our local lodges is still primarily playing 1E/PFS1 including a couple of active APs.

While it is certainly true it is played much less than it was a couple of years ago, you can still find people who are playing it. Depends a lot on what you are willing to do to facilitate it. If you only play at your house and only with your friends, it is very possible that those limitations could mean 1E is dead for you. If you are willing to play online with people who you meet digitally, your options increase significantly.

Good luck!

I know my region has had a very hard time keeping 1e going -- all the 'forever GMs' prefer 2e by a large margin for us. We still have a pool of enthusiastic 1e players, but haven't been able to get a rotation of them GMing. if you want to keep 1e going, we definitely need players to GM.

Just signed up for a number of in person 1E tables at an upcoming convention, and played some at another convention a couple of months ago. Locally all types of in person play have seen a real hit compared to pre-pandemic.

If you want PF2 PFS play, I suggest heading to the online lodges. There is an upcoming Play-by-Post convention, NostalgiaCon, that will be opening January 10th and will be running a ton of PF1 tables.

PF1 is still alive and well in our region. Based on player demand, we run about 33% PF1 and 67% PF2 at our LGS. Private home games are more like 80% PF1/20% PF2.
