Reaction and Flourish

Rules Discussion

Hi folks,
The rules for flourish are "You can use only 1 action with the flourish trait per turn."

If you flourish as a single action, then ready, your reaction happens on a different turn. Can you use the flourish action as part of that reaction?

Thanks! My search didn't turn it up.

As far as I can tell from the linked thread there seems to be some disagreement about it, but I think some good points were made.

Some of the main points imo were:
• As you mentioned, the flourish trait mentions once per "turn" not once per "round", indicating it would be allowed
• However, ready mentions readying an action you "can use", which begs the question: What does "can use" mean? Does it mean can use if the ready action was triggered now? Does it mean one available to you in general? Or perhaps something else entirely.
• Even if it is allowed, because of the wording on readied actions you wouldn't benefit from lower map, so it's not as busted as it may seem at first glance.

Personally, I would allow it. It's cutting into their action economy to ready something at all, so although it's effectively getting around a limitation in the game it comes at a cost that seems fair.

I also happen to think what I just said is a pretty good RAW reading, as I don't think "can use" really functions as intended if you have to be able to use that action at that moment. For example, readying an action to attack a hostile creature that comes in melee range isn't an action you "can use" at the time if there's no creatures around you, but you could then use it later if the trigger occurs. (That's not exactly the best example, but it's what came to mind first, and I think it gets the point across fairly well).
