Just got my PDF and after a quick perusal, I've got to say this looks like the best Lost Omens book we've received so far. Obviously, this will vary based on taste but there's something here for everyone from player options, lore, religion/gods, geography, settlements, bestiary. The art is top-notch too! Better than I expected.

How many new gods are there? And if you're really feeling ambitious, what are their names and spheres of influence? I am really psyched about this book!

Might be better in the Lost Omens subforum?

But yes, I’m absolutely drooling over this one; cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Any tie ins to the Serpents Skull AP? I was a little dissapointed the world book didn't really reference that one.

Hmmmm...it's hard to know with so much having been revealed already. I thought this was unexpected and funny.

Gnoll Heritage:
Sweetbreath Gnoll - gets trained in Diplomacy and a bonus to Make an Impression if the target can smell your breath.

If this is one part AMA, what's up with the Goloma lore-wise? I haven't seen anything about them other than a picture, and to my knowledge they are first appearing in the Lost Omens setting with this book. What common values or attitudes connect them, what faiths and traditions do they follow, and where do they tend to reside?

Hahaha definitely wasn't my intent. I was just more blown away by the product than I expected. Here's some Goloma info:

Goloma:
Mentions they're most common in the Screaming Jungle, some interact with people of Osibu, sometimes try to attend Magaambya University. A few may have migrated to Southern Garund or other continents, but they're pretty much unheard of outside of the Mwangi.

Focus on their own survival and thus are typically neutral, though those who find more comfort in conformity than others trend toward lawful alignments. Often pay homage to Kalekot, a deity of protective fear, as the guardian of their people, though not one to be trusted. Kalekot is called upon to curse those who victimize golomas, as most feel that justice can only be attained using supernatural means. Other popular gods include Mazludeh and Grandmother Spider, who encourage the strength of community, though a typical goloma’s idea of community is often very insular.

Can I get a spoiler about each Gnoll heritage?

Sure. That sort of info is going to show up on AoN anyway.

Gnoll Heritages:

Ant Gnoll
You’re a sharp-featured, big-eared gnoll about three feet tall. Many are skeptical that you are in fact a gnoll. Your size is Small instead of Medium. You are trained in Deception (or another skill if you were already trained in Deception). You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Deception checks to Lie when specifically claiming innocence, to Deception DCs against Sense Motive checks to uncover such lies, and to initiative checks when you roll Deception for initiative.

Great Gnoll
You’re a large, powerful gnoll, with tawny fur and brown spots on your hide. You gain 10 Hit Points from your ancestry instead of 8 and gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Athletics checks to Shove or Trip foes.

Sweetbreath Gnoll
You’re a striped, pale-furred gnoll with oddly pleasant breath, which you can use to entrance your prey. You are trained in Diplomacy (or another skill if you were already trained in Diplomacy). You also gain a +1 circumstance bonus to checks to Make an Impression if the target can smell your breath.

Witch Gnoll
You’re a shaggy, dark-furred gnoll capable of making some truly uncanny sounds. You can cast the ghost sound cantrip as an occult innate spell at will. A cantrip is heightened to a spell level equal to half your level rounded up. In addition, you gain a +1 circumstance bonus to checks to Impersonate and Create a Diversion when using only your voice.

actually the copy pastes of direct text was the one thing we were asked not to do, paraphrasing has been ok though.

What do gnoll feats look like? What kind of builds do their feats encourage?

Man that little period between when subscribers get PDFs and the rest of us can buy them is the worst.

Really excited for this book though.

WWHsmackdown wrote:

Gnoll Feats:

Here's a pared-down list:

1st - You've got your typical ancestry-specific lore and weapon familiarity. A jaws attack. Imprecise scent. Hyena as a familiar. A bonus to aid.

5th - Ventriloquism as an innate spell. Use your blood to Administer first aid, treat wounds, or treat disease.

9th - cast enthrall as an innate spell and improve the sweet breath gnoll heritage bonus, cast augury as an innate spell, get battle cry feat and ignores the demoralize language restriction.

13th - cast animal form 5th level as an innate spell can only be canine form.

@5th and 13th you can also choose the typical enhancements to ancestry weapon familiarity.

Seems like some decent options but not a clear upgrade path through the feats. Outside of going through the weapon ones, it feels a little disjointed to me. I'm sure when use in conjunction with Skil/General/Class feats it's a different story.

I never intended this to turn into a Q+A just found the book exceeded my expectations and was trying to be nice to those that asked questions. I thought more people would've gotten their PDFs already and it wouldn't be a big deal to mention, but now I know.

If it's causing negative feelings or stepping on anyone's toes I'm more than happy to stop responding. I don't want to cause any issues.

Oh no negative feelings from me. Just that feeling of "god I want this book now" that I'm commenting on.

Sorry if it came off that way, was meant to be more lighthearted.

Thank you for the tidbits you've dropped so far.

Nah talking about it is fine, I actually do AMAs usually (someone beat me by 2 hours this time over on reddit) so I was just sharing what theyve asked us for, and im sure the others are just expressing their lust for the book, lol.

How are the Anadi looking? Anything particularly cool to share, especially in terms of high level feats?

I must say, I never really had any interest in the Mwangi Expanse, but with the gods section apparently being really good and funky spider people being funky, I'm getting really interested over here...

Worth reiterating this is my favorite lost omens book so far. I know I've said that a lot already but it's definitely worth picking it up and I was on the fence before release.

Anadi Heritages:

1. You can replace your humanoid form with another common, medium, humanoid ancestry besides human and grab Adopted Ancestry feat for that.

2. Really colorful - trained in performance and get Impressive Performance feat.

3. Fang attack gets grapple and trip traits.

4. Speed increase from 25 to 30.

5. Fangs can inject venom.

Anadi Feats:

1st - standard ancestry lore; decrease ally's frightened condition; talk to spiders; get an innate arcane cantrip; bonus ac/saves to web spell and anything involving webs, snares, entangle; use webs to craft simple things.

5th - pass yourself off as an ally in your humanoid form; critical specialization for fangs; hybrid spider/humanoid form.

9th - venom can make flat-footed; get a climb speed; 1/day can cast humanoid form and mirror image as arcane innate spells; imprecise tremor sense that has a further reach if you're using web/rope.

13th - 3 actions can cast 2nd level Web at will;

The book also have a new Sorcerer bloodline, Wyrmblessed, it's the Draconic Sorcerer but Divine instead of Arcane (same focus spells) and with a few different granted spells.

In that session also have an optional rule to change the Draconic options like Bloodline, Instinct and Dragon Disciple to cover the Imperial and Elemental Dragons (it even recomend the damage type of each for breath weapons per example.)

Pathfinder Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Oh that's super cool, I've wanted to do elemental dragons a few times, glad to have rules for player options for them!

Mhh, originally the idea for my first rogue in 2e was the slightly silly gentleman explorer using a swordcane, but depending on what the damage dice looks like on the fangs, that one is getting set on the backburner...

Just think of the possibilities. A whole web of it... badum-tss :D

I'm gonna combine it with the ganzi heritage and create the least unnoticeable rogue ever created. And because I may or may not be physically incapable of creating a character without darkvision. Damn, this practically writes itself!

I'm really looking forward to reading how Wyrmblessed works. I'm excited to see what it might mean for other sorcerer bloodlines down the, uh, line.

My book came in, but I think might be an error in the Grippli.

Spoiler:
They have one ability boost and a flaw instead of the normal 2-and-1 or just 1. Is that intentional?

Otherwise, this has been great. Love that my favorite cryptid managed to sneak its big-self in.

AND LUIS COMES IN WITH THE CLUTCH WIN! Here's the boosts for all 6 ancestries:

Anadi: +DEX +WIS +Free -CON
Gnoll: +STR +INT +Free -WIS
Grippli: +DEX +WIS +Free -STR
Conrasu: +CON +WIS +Free -CHA

The grippli ability boosts within the printed book are incorrect. We noticed that the grippli lacked the Dexterity boost just after the book was sent to the printers. We corrected the PDF to show the appropriate ability boosts (+DEX, +WIS, +Free, –STR) but it was just a tad too late to update the physical copies.

We have a blog planned to notify everyone about this coming soon, but we figured someone would notice if they got their book before the blog went up.

The PDF is correct and other sources such as Archives of Nethys will be grabbing information from the PDF, so their information should be correct as well.

There’s a note that says groups are welcome to consider Gnolls and Catfolk common within the Mwangi Expanse.

5 people marked this as a favorite.

Top level choices like ancestry are less of a hassle with the rarity system than things that would happen after character generation. Like, "Can I play an Anadi?" is a quick conversation with a GM and if you don't get the answer you want, you might get a promise to let you play one in a different campaign.

You're really just asking "how weird is it for this kind of person to be in this place, and is that going to be inconvenient for you" which is easy to figure out.
