(SF) Junker's Delight / Against the Aeon Throne--adding 3 players to a couple of my games

Recruitment

Hello everyone!

I am looking for three players to join games that recently got started.

The first is Against the Aeon Throne. We are near the beginning of this trio of adventures, and our intention is to get through all three books in the AP. This group recently had a player bail, and are down to four players. I'd like to go ahead and add two players. Please see character creation (below) for more information of the types of characters we're looking for.

The second is Junker's Delight. Again, this is near the beginning (right now the characters are on their way to the first major location of this adventure). I'll be adding one character to this excellent low-level adventure. We haven't discussed it much yet, but I think there is a chance we will continue with the follow-up adventure "The Liberation of Locus 1."

Again, if you are interested in this adventure head down to the character creation spoiler (below).

Why am I adding three players? I think there is a demand for spots in Starfinder AP's right now. While I do need to replace one player, I think adding two more additional players is a good thing to help give some opportunity to players desiring this sort of experience.

BECOMING PART OF AN EXISTING GAME ISN'T EASY. On one hand, you want to jump in and add lots of colorful enthusiasm (and multiple posts) right away. On the other hand, you also don't want to step on the toes of existing players. They deserve their "space" as well in an adventure. I suppose I am looking for players who understand this dichotomy.

A little about me: I have been playing RPG's since 198coughcough (so, a long time--though I was a kid when I started). I'm a husband and a Dad from the midwest U.S., and I work at a busy downtown library in community television. I have always loved sci-fi, ranging from old 40's Flash Gordon serials to current gems like The Expanse. I GM three Starfinder games here on the Paizo boards. I also GM a game with a home group.

I will make Starfinder Society chronicle sheets available for all players who participate.

I am looking for players who are comfortable making 5-6 posts a week. I am generally a very responsive GM, so I will be making a similar number of posts per week. Like most PBP games, we'll probably slow down on the weekends, though I am hoping we can still see some posting Saturdays and Sundays.

I will end submissions for this on November 7th at midnight EST.

ARE YOU STILL INTERESTED? LET'S TALK CHARACTER CREATION!:

Level 1, any official Paizo source, using the standard point buy character creation guidelines.

You make use any official Paizo material to create your character. Yes, you absolutely may look at creative choices for races (though see below for some concerns and ideas regarding PC race).

I care more about your character’s personality than their backstory, and more about their backstory than their build. Here’s the basic information I want to see, feel free to include anything else you feel is relevant:

Name:
Race:
Class:
Gender and Pronouns:
General Backstory:
Personality:
Flaw(s):
Quirk(s):

We're playing heroes here. No evil or CN characters.

You may create two different submissions, one for each campaign. It's extremely unlikely I would pick you for both.

With Against the Aeon Throne, it's highly likely you will be one of the colonists that are part of a small colony called Madelon's Landing on a forest planet called Nakondis. Your colony has recently been invaded and occupied by the dastardly Azlanti. The colonist theme would be great to look at. I'd love to see some of the races from Azlanti space show up as a submission. This includes Brakims, Gosclaws, Neskintis, Screedreeps, Stelliferas, or Vilderaros. Perhaps you were a refugee escaping Azlanti territory who petitioned Madelon to join the colony!

In the colony, you met an android named Cedona. You're worried about her (along with several of the other colonists) who have disappeared since the arrival of the Azlanti.

I know the current group is hoping to add a mechanic for one of the two additional characters. The second new character could be just about any class.

Do you want to submit a character for the one spot I have available for Junker's Delight? Great! We already have a fairly balanced group that includes a mystic, technomancer, two soldiers, and an operative.

A mechanic may have lots of fun in this group as they explore the old junked starship graveyards that are part of this adventure, but I will entertain any classes.

I would encourage you to give strong consideration to one of the native Akitonian races. This includes ysoki, contemplatives, and ikeshti. You'll notice I didn't mention shobhad. We already have two, and things are CROWDED on our maps (shobhad are LARGE creatures).

Please post any questions you have.

I might add that the Against the Aeon Throne group includes the following characters already:

1. A brenneri envoy.
2. A vesk soldier.
3. A stellifera mystic.
4. A lashuhnta multi-class operative/technomancer.

Some of the characters did another adventure I ran on Absalom Station this past year, so they are 2nd level. I'll be working toward everyone being at the same level by the end of the first book in the AP.

Dotting for interest. This character was created to join an on-going Against the Aeon Throne PBP game. That game fizzled, so if Duncan is a good fit, I'll put him in for a candidate. The game got up to the point where the team was about ready to attempt to storm the garrison.

Duncan is a good mechanic/engineer (actually an operative gadgeteer). Duncan is second level, but could be scaled back to first if appropriate. I might revise his construction if I get the chance. I'll read up on the character creation specs later today.

Thank you for the submission, Duncan.

Conveniently, my group is almost ready to storm the garrison as well (they have a couple more tasks to complete first). I would say your character is a strong candidate. Obviously I'll want to see what other characters are submitted, but you have given us a great start!

The only thing I would like to see would be the following from the character creation spoiler above. I'm particularly interested in what brought Duncan to Nakondis, and what he has been doing since the Azlanti arrived. This may mean you modify, at least a little, your original backstory.

Name:
Race:
Class:
Gender and Pronouns:
General Backstory:
Personality:

Thanks for the feedback.

Name: Duncan Sangster
Race: Pathra
Class: Operative
Theme: Roboticist
Operative Specialty: Gadgeteer
Gender and Pronouns: Male, He/him/his
General Backstory: Grew up on the Pahtra homeworld (Pulonis/Vesk-6) but he left the planet to pursue an education in the Pact Worlds and never looked back. His passion for engineering coupled with his homeworld's odd EM properties encouraged him to specialize in ways to make devices that don't need complex electronics to work. This earned him a job at the colony which was having trouble with the static charge in the atmosphere disrupting devices designed for standard environments. He has been at the colony only a few months. He was away from Madelon’s Landing when the Azlanti arrived, working in one of the tin mines. After losing communications with the base, he made his way back to find out what's going on.
Personality: Extroverted, doesn't like regimented authoritarian organizations, speaks with colorful slang in an accent from his homeworld (resembles Scottish English accent).
Flaw(s): Lacks wisdom and tact. Has been a loner, working on his gadgets, but has little experience working with a team for an extended period of time.
Quirk(s): Strong accent, odd devices attached to his body (used to create distractions in combat). Loves to dance and join musical jam sessions.

I'll be happy to adjust anything about his background to suit the needs of the party.

For an idea of his personality, check out his posts tab.

His profile has all his current (2nd level) details and equipment.

I can regress him back to first level if need be. The GM had everyone level up early in the first game he was in.

Dataphiles

Clebsch73 here again [Duncan's Player]. If you don't choose Duncan for the Aeon Throne game, I have a character that I developed for SFS play but never got a chance to run that might be a good fit for your other opening (Junker's Delight).

He's a mechanic and pilot. Plus he's an Ysoki and speaks a number of languages. His profile has a background idea, but this could be changed to fit the campaign. He could be from Akiton instead of Absalom.

He was created using the Starfinder Society specs. Unless this game is being played for SFS credit, if I were selected, I'd create a separate profile for him to keep the SFS profile in case I get an opportunity to run him in an SFS game in the future. I'd also review his creation and maybe adjust some features, since I've gotten a lot more experience with Starfinder since Pogo was created.

Name: Pogo
Race: Ysoki
Class: Mechanic (with drone)
Theme: Ace Pilot
Gender and Pronouns: Male, He/Him/His.
General Backstory: See spoiler on profile. Was initially trying to make it as a space racer designer and pilot, but got derailed and has begun looking for adventuring with SFS.
Personality: Young and inexperienced, he is nevertheless eager to make a name for himself. (I haven't yet worked out his personality yet.)
Flaw(s): Egghead without much personal charm or flair. Cynical about strangers.
Quirk(s): TBD.

Regarding myself, I've been playing RPGs since first edition DnD in the '70s. I've been playing Pathfinder pretty much since it came out and have enjoyed Starfinder even more. I've played a lot of PBP games over the past 10 years. I'm the GM for two Pathfinder 1E APs. I can post daily and most weekends. I work about 3/4 time as a university teacher but I have ample time to post to multiple games.

Dotting for interest!

Dotting interest

I have a human mechanic with drone and scholar theme.

"Hi, everyone! I'm Gath. My family used to live on Akiton, but now we live on Absalom Station. This is my first visit back in many years. Have you been in Khefak Depot long?"

I'm one of the players in Junker's Delight. I highly recommend any game that GMQ is running.

So to put all my cards on the table (so to speak), I am still a little new to Starfinder and SFS play (Especially here on the official boards) but I have done PbP before and can easily handle the 6 posts a week game requirement.

And now to dust off a couple of concepts I've been trying to play -

Name: Sevens
Race: Android
Class: Mechanic
Gender and Pronouns: Female, She/They
General Backstory: Escapee from the Diaspora Asteroids, traveling across the galaxy looking for a purpose for themselves.
Personality: Flat but friendly, occasionally mimics others in an attempt to pass as a living creature, has yet to avoid the uncanny valley.
Flaw(s): Lacks social nuance and can come across as naive. Sometimes forgets to imitating breathing.
Quirk(s): Didn't get that far in game. TBD

I don't have a second character concept just yet but Sevens can be adjusted as necessary to fit the party better.

As for myself, I've been playing D&D since 3rd edition and its shift to 3.5 and then to Pathfinder. My last few attempts to play Starfinder never got past character creation but I like to think I'd pick it up pretty quickly, assuming a relative newbie isn't too offputting ;)

My only question so far would be that in regards to character creation, is the Archive of Nethys an acceptable SRD?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thank you, MrMantis. That is a solid submission. I see Sevens as strong possibility for the Junker's Delight game, as that particular adventure is built for beginners. Were you to be chosen, I could help you come up with a reason why you were in the town of Khefak Depot on the planet Akiton. Akiton is not too far away from the Diaspora, so it might be reasonable stopping off point for an android who is looking for work and opportunity.

Yes, Archives of Nethys is perfectly acceptable for you to use. I almost always have it open in a window on my computers and phone (though just as often I find it more comforting to reference an old-fashioned book).

"Thanks for bringing me along, big guy! You know this is the first time I've ever been on an actual planet?"

I'm in Junker's Delight as well! Though I may be doing an overhaul of my character sheet now that Tech Revolution is out with proper vehicle customization. They don't really have true hoverboards, though...

I do like the Archive - it's been super helpful for all kinds or PF1E games - and I've lucked out and a friend is going to lend me their copy of the core rulebook. Between the two I should be able to get a second concept out before submissions end. I'm thinking a Lashunta or a Kasatha.

Dark Archive

I am interested in trying out some more Starfinder. So far it seems that everyone is tossing their hat into the mechanics box, so instead of a prankser space goblin mechanic, I present

Name: Ymeros
Race: Vesk
Class: Vanguard
Gender and Pronouns: Male/ He/His/Him
General Backstory: Ymeros is a mercenary traveling the stars and looking for work.
Personality: Ymeros has a rather dour personality. He is in touch with the decay of existence, and although he likes the power of entropy, it leaves him with the knowledge that all things break and wear down.
Flaw(s): Ymeros has a doom and gloom attitude, even though he is willing to face grave danger. He is pretty sure it will always be "Game over, man!"
Quirk(s): Ymeros hates how cold most space ships are to make life comfortable for furry mammals. So he tends to stand really close to mammals to leach off of their ambient body heat. If they complain he tells them to turn up the temperature in the ship.

A quick question - I already submitted Sevens, would you accept a resubmission if the same character as well as a second submission, or are we able to alter our characters after they're (hopefully) picked?

MrMantis--I will consider up to two characters, so if you would like to create a second character and update Sevens that would be fine.

I also sent you a PM.

Well, since it looks like you're still considering ... Here's one for Junker's Delight.

Name: Klepf
Race: Kobold
Class: Mechanic
Gender and Pronouns: Non-binary, They/Them
General Backstory: Klepf was raised on a salvage trawler that frequently dropped off salvage on Akiton. The ship was attacked and destroyed by space pirates on their last mission. Though his parents both died, Klepf was able to get to an escape pod. He was able to pilot the escape pod back to Akiton, landing it on fumes.

Note: Given the adventure concept, he could either have been hanging out on Akiton for a while, or he could *just* have crashed and show up to meet the group that way.

Personality: Being raised without many other children or people of any kind around, Klepf has taken to be largely isolated, spending time with his devices, particularly his spy drone, as opposed to other people. He is somewhat nervous and twitchy around others, though deeply wants to develop friendships, and is loyal to those who treat him kindly.
Flaw(s): Low self-confidence. Shy.
Quirk(s): Treats even inanimate machines as if they have feelings.

Look forward to the decision. :)

I have made some choices here.

Duncan and MrMantis have, or will be soon, joined the Against the Aeon Throne game.

Senkuviene was placed in the Junker's Delight game, as she had been promised a spot there long ago, then partially due to the GM (me!) forgotten about.

That leaves azjauthor and Malinor outside looking in. However, the news is not all bad. There currently another recruitment thread for Against the Aeon Throne. azjauthor, it looks like you have already posted there. Klepf sounds like a great character. Malinor, let me know if you need help finding the thread--I think your character is a good one as well.
