Crimson Templar Prestige Class

Rules Questions

Hi all.

Apologies in advance, but I’m new to Prestige classes and have a couple of questions.

I’m currently a 5th level Paladin worshiping Ragathiel. The Crimson Templar sounds like a good fit.

1. The prerequisites for this class is BAB +6. Does this mean that I need to be a 6th level Paladin with a BAB of +6 and then level up to Crimson Templar (with a BAB of +7) OR that I can level up from a 5th level Paladin with a BAB of +5 to a Crimson Templar with a BAB of +6?

2. The Deific Obedience for Ragathiel

Slay a proven wrongdoer in Ragathiel’s name. It is not enough for the sacrifice to have an evil heart or evil intentions; the sacrifice must have committed evil or unlawful deeds.

Seriously! I mean it stands to reason that we are going to be killing evil creatures anyways if you are playing a Good Aligned adventure, but kill kill kill doesn’t sound awfully LG when the truly repentant seek redemption. Can we assume that Evil creatures have committed evil or unlawful deeds anyways?

Thanks
George

1) You'd need to take 6 full levels of paladin before you could take your first level of the prestige class at level 7.

2) Yeah, Ragathiel's views are a bit extreme, as noted in the prestige class description:

Source Paths of the Righteous pg. 8

Even the most devout followers of good can recognize the need for ruthlessness when opposing true evil. The crimson templars of Ragathiel are taught that mercy is a virtue reserved for only those capable of accepting redemption. They must learn this lesson well, for they are trained to face the heartless legions of Hell. These women and men are Heaven’s assassins, and they tread a bloody path so the oaths of others remain untarnished. Their mission is a thankless one, as righteous allies often view them as just a step away from corruption.

The obedience does require a 'proven wrongdoer' so random evil creatures won't really suffice: I'm thinking you need someone you know has committed an actual offense...

1. The first - you need to meet prereqs before you enter a prestige class.

2. It's not something you can actually do in a standard adventure, no. You can ask your GM for a waiver but the rule is 'proven wrongdoer'.

Liberty's Edge

You need to kill someone that has been proven guilty of evil actions in the eye of Ragathiel.

Essentially you need to kill:
- someone or something that is intelligent and has the ability to choose between doing or not doing an evil act.
- one or more reliable witnesses of him/it doing evil or unlawful acts or incontrovertible proof of him/it doing evil or unlawful acts.
Note the plural (a single action isn't sufficient) and that unlawful acts are enough, it isn't limited to evil acts.
Ragathiel is a seriously lawful deity.

Thank you all for your Words of Wisdom. I’ll be sure to run around saying “I AM the Law” just before killing the unlawful and/or evil.
