If you play a module or AP in campaign mode how are day job checks handled when you get the chronicle?

Do you use the stats of the character it is applied to? Even if the character is not of high enough level yet to apply the chronicle to?

Or do you use the pregen rules? Use the stats of the character you played the adventure with at the time the chronicle is awarded?

You don't do Day Job checks in modules or APs.

Actually, ignore my previous post.

I found this post.

As for which PC makes the day job roll, good question. I would assume it's the one playing it.

Let's see what others say when they chime in on this thread.

Isn't this just a question of "assigned" vs "applied"?

Say your PC is Level 5, and the AP Chronicle is Tier 7-8. You "assign" the Chronicle to them when you finish the Book, then set it aside until they're Level 7. When they hit Level 7, you then "apply" the Chronicle, earning the XP, GP, Prestige and Downtime as usual.

That doesn't answer the question at all. Which set of numbers are used to generate the day job check? Those of the PFS character or those of the campaign character?

I mean, that's the answer. I don't know what more you want.

You never use the Campaign character. They weren't created using PFS rules.

"as usual" means you use the PFS character's stats, when the Chronicle is applied.

With my past experience playing APs, we never did day jobs since we were told we couldn't. I was fine with that since the gold rewards for playing an AP or module were quite generous.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm thinking that thorin001 isn't familiar with the terms "assigned" and "applied", since the initial post uses phrases like "get the chronicle", "the time the chronicle is awarded" and an incorrect usage of the word "apply".

In Organized Play, the term "assigned" refers to the act of designating which PC will eventually be adding the Chronicle to their "stack" (which is the collection of the character's Chronicles that have already been applied). It's a process that could take anywhere from minutes to years, begins with giving the GM your Org Play ID# and PC#, continues with them giving you a Chronicle, and lasts until your character reaches the Chronicle's Level range.

I used the example of a Level 5 PC and a Tier 7-8 Chronicle because I am unaware of what Level thorin's PC is, and I don't know which AP Book was completed.

A Chronicle is "applied" at a) the earliest point your character reaches the level range of the Chronicle, and b) when the player fills in the boxes on the right side of the sheet and totals up the numbers. In my example, this would usually occur by the time the PC reaches Level 7, but might not happen until Level 8, depending on how many other Chronicles had already been assigned.

As part of Step B, you would be filling in your Day Job result (which is the player's responsibility, not the GM's) using your now Level 7 character's stats.

For any game played in Campaign Mode:

The day job is calculated using the skills of the character the chronicle is applied to, when the chronicle is applied.
