It's the damage rolls that are underhyped.

Maps & Slides

Spanner hits the yellow spirit once, for 4 damage, taking it down to -7. It still doesn't seem in particularly rough shape.

Shohiraj fails to identify a weak spot, but does hit the menhir for 2 damage after hardness, taking it to -137.
Shohiraj, doesn't matter for last turn, but since the engineering/phys science check takes a move action, you can't also do the trick attack which is a full action.
You can't stack multiple weak points, but you can retry the engineering/phys science check until someone gets a crit to pass to Dart if that's what you were looking for.

Pangea moves into range but can't locate a weak point.

Dart continues taking chunks out of the damaged menhir, 48 more to bring it down to -185.

Kane once again can't get the incantations quite right.

The menhir does not summon a spirit this turn.

Red spirit shoots its magic missiles at Shohiraj, dealing 13 more damage. This takes out his remaining 7 SP and then 6 HP. But it seems to be out of magic and flies swiftly into melee range of Shohiraj and Kane. So watch out for AoO from it, that weak point check or mysticism check do NOT provoke.

One of the elementals misses Dart, while the other hits for 13.

The yellow spirit is once again able to use its kinetic surge and zigzags its way through each of you again, causing full 12 damage to Pangea, Shohiraj, and Spanner, but only half (6) to Dart and Kane. This takes out everyone's reamaing SP and starts to move into their HP. It leaves Shohiraj at a painfully low health of only 8!

GM Rolls:

Red Spirit Magic Missile vs Shohiraj: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) + 3 = 13

Red Ele Slam vs Dart: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
B Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Yellow Acid Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4) = 12
Dart Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Kane Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Pangea Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Round 5: *bold may go (everyone)

Menhir Damage Reminder:
There are several ways to damage the mystical structure:
- Anyone trained in mysticism knows they can attempt a DC 21 Mysticism check within 30 feet as a standard action to deal significant damage to the menhir. 26+ deals even more.
- Dealing damage with weapons or spells. To aid this, as a move action within 30 feet you can make a DC 21 Engineering or Physical Science check to identify a weak spot, and the next successful attack by anyone will ignore hardness. 26+ and that attack will be a guaranteed critical hit.
- Destroying a spirit deals damage to the menhir equal to the spirit's max HP

Everyone is now left without stamina remaining. Sorry this fight is brutal if you aren't getting those checks, and has narrow margin for error. Dart has been the only one doing serious damage, you could prioritize rolling that engineering/physical science check until you have a crit to hand off to Dart. If anyone can generate a crit from that check I'll give it to Dart unless you say otherwise. Kane, that mysticism only uses your standard. You can use your move action for something too. I really am rooting for you guys! Also, check my numbers!

Maps & Slides

Pangea restores 15 SP to Spanner, but then can't find a weak point on the obelisk. Neither can Shohiraj!

Spanner misses the yellow spirit, but Kane steps back and sends two magic missiles of his own back at it, and it now appears halfway done.
Kane, 2 FYI's. You can take a guarded step as a move action instead of a regular move. It only goes 5 feet and you don't provoke an AoO. Magic Missile specifically calls out that you have to select your targets before you roll anything. I gave you a guarded step so no AoO and both your missiles will go to yellow.

Dart keeps carrying the load, and hits the menhir twice more. It looks like it's finally on the brink of breaking down.

The Red Spirit is charged up again, and jolts through the party. It seems a little low on juice this time, and most of you dodge to only take the corroding damage in an arm or leg for 4 acid damage, except Dart can't get out of the way and takes 9.

Both elementals hit Dart again, for 9 and 12.

The Yellow Spirit throws his missiles at Spanner, taking out the rest of the stamina that Pangea just gave him.

GM Rolls:

Red Acid Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) = 9

Noting the tremendous abuse the kasatha has taken, Sho unleashes a stream of shots to distract the elementals.

covering fire, tactical semi-auto pistol, AC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Covering fire:
You can use your standard action to make a ranged attack that provides covering fire for an ally. Make a ranged attack roll against AC 15. If you hit, you deal no damage but the selected ally gains a +2 circumstance bonus to AC against the next attack from a creature in your line of effect (see page 271), so long as that attack occurs before your next turn.

At least the next hit on the menhir ignores hardness.

Maps & Slides

With a final swing with the borrowed axe, Dart breaks through and the menhir shatters, crumbling to the ground.

The spirits assailing you fade, and the rocks from the haunted elementals fall next to the rubble of the mehir.

Those spirits join the many othars which fly in from every corner of the town. they begin swirling in a spiral overhead above where the menhir once stood.

Je Tsun, Councilor in Nesting Swallow and Heir of Li Yao

You are probably terrified given your weary state, but the spirit in Pangea has calming words. "Thank you, now we are free..."

It then departs from Pangea to join the others. But it returns, with 4 others with it and each reaches out to one of you. "Let us return the favor..." They each form a bond to go with you, at least for a little while to repay the kindness you gave their people.

Maps & Slides

The spirit spiral then begins to shoot toward the sky, and the ghosts of the Mentrasi people are free to join the afterlife at last.

This is wrapping up, there's no more combat, so you don't need to expend your expendables for healing... You can rest for RP reasons but don't worry about your low health.

The town is quiet and still and dark again. Where to now?

You head back down that side passage to report back to Iteration-177. But when you get to their coordinates, they are nowhere to be seen. There is no trace of Iteration-177's body or sign of anything stirring here. Sorry the description here in the scenario leaves much to be desired. It just seems like Iteration-177 up and vanished.

With no more spirits, the trip back to the surface is somewhat uneventful, and any further scans of the star system still show no other starships in the vicinity, leaving Iteration-177's disappearance a complete mystery. you head back to the Pact Worlds and Absolom Station.

When you return to Jadnura to report your findings, he listens to your entire report in calm silence while staring out the window at the skyline of Absalom Station's Eye. Once you've finished, he slowly turns to face you, his face stoic.

"Thank you," Jadnura begins, "you've done a commendable job and shown me just how reckless I've been. The idea that there is a deity sleeping within the Scoured Stars is... It matches my visions and the records recovered from the survivors of my expedition there." He lowers his head for a moment, rubbing his temple. "Your report mentions that Dhurus is the name of one of Kadrical's four heralds. I fear this is the same Dhurus that leads the jinsuls against us now. This fact is... daunting. I'm concerned about what happens if this deity eventually 'wakes up.' Are the jinsuls typical followers or extremists? It sounds like the mentrasi fled from this god's overbearing protection, which makes me even more concerned about our future."

He removes an ancient looking compass from his pocket and turns it over in his hands several times, brushing his fingers across the surface. "The Society cannot afford to sit back and react to these ongoing events. We need to formulate a strategy for dealing with the damage we've caused—I've caused. I'll meet with First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo and decide what to do next. Thank you, Starfinders. You are dismissed, with my personal thanks."
