Will there be a technology guide in 2e?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

I hope so. I hope so. I also hope there is a module or even an AP set in Numeria again.

I mean, potentially. Guns and Gears is also coming out soon, but if you're looking for something further along than that, you really will have to wait.

Pretty much. No point in retreading old ground that was both in PF1E already, and will be so closely related to a book they are releasing this year, so soon.

That being said, I also really really really really hope they release a Technology Guide 2e. Personally I think it'd be fun to fold technology rules into a time traveler's guide or something similar, so we can get rules for both high-tech and Stone/Bronze Age technologies, along with some Golarion-specific goodies from various ages. Also it'd be a good reason to slap the Scepter of Ages into the game, and I always liked that artifact.

*thumbs up* I'd like to see it. If we do get it, it most likely will be a while.

I could see a rulebook covering Sword and Stars stuff down the road. Cover other planets including Verces, which is poppin off with tech.

I expect to see the rules, but they are probably going to be within a different context.

One of the devs, I think James, said they likely wouldn't be returning to Numeria soon since there are so many regions (etc) that haven't had APs.
He also mentioned wanting to step back from Starfinder's territory.

So whatever arises along with the Gunslinger & Inventor may be the extent of PF2 tech for a long while though I'd expect many conversion guides and maybe even 3PP products.

I feel like that might have been taken out of context if I said something like that. Or perhaps (more likely) I fumbled what I was trying to say.

In any case, I was the one who wrote the bulk of the Technology Guide and I'm proud of it and would love to see us look back at it in 2nd edition, and I'm also eager to do another big story set in Numeria.

I'm not as eager to explore all the worlds and stories that we're telling in Starfinder, though, since those worlds and stories are Starfinder's to explore, not Pathifnder's.

But Golarion (including Numeria) is specifically NOT part of Starfinder. So telling more stories there wouldn't step on Starfinder's toes.

I'm not the one folks need to convince to do more Pathfinder technology content or more Numeria stories though... ;-)

Personally, I'm far more interested in exploring proto-steampunk tech in Guns & Gears. I'm sure James is right, at some points it's highly likely we'll see more android & raygun tech in a revamped version of the PF1 tech guide. Especially given James' unflagging interest in it.

Give it... (casts Contact Other Plane) about 2 years before it's announced.

They've already done at least one PFS scenario there, so there's a little content to draw from: https://pf2.easytool.es/index.php?id=8193&name=#1-24:_Lightning_Strikes ,_Stars_Fall

I think this post is the one they’re referring to.

Back to the topic of what you'd like to see in upcoming Adventure Paths.

In your opinion, would we be able to see some Numeria stuff within the next 2 years?

I would love to do something like that. I've had a sequel Adventure Path to Iron Gods bumping in my head since I finished work on Iron Gods, but until we can get a science-fantasy tech book on the schedule to support a big return to Numeria... we won't be going back there for anything significant. A PFS scenario here and there, a few entries in books like Lost Omens Legends, but no big adventures or Adventure Paths.

I would say seeing something like that in the next 2 years is Very VERY unlikely. If it happens, I'll be delighted, but to be honest, the fact that we're doing Starfinder now as a separate line with separate teams kinda makes the possibility of a high-tech Numeria-themed thing happening in Pathifnder even MORE unlikely, since that'd require both teams, and there's logistical and scheduling reasons why that's a tough ask these days.

I can kind of see why Castilliano came to the conclusion they did, though you were answering a different question.

Animated Paper, that's exactly the post I'd read. :)

Hey, we have been begging them to do an Alkenstar/Mana Wastes AP for over a decade now and they're finally getting around to actually doing it (You cannot convince me otherwise) as evidenced by the LOAD of region/tech-specific material that G&G and other similarly timed products are touted to contain.

We literally JUST got a new Deity from Numeria since then, I say let it lie for just a bit before diving back in, I want to play with inventions, guns, and cannons that fire projectiles the size of a small house first!

Ah; yeah I can see why you'd come to that conclusion, and what I said remains accurate. As I said in the original answer, I'd love to do some more tech/Numeria stuff, but don't expect it any time soon. We generally work a few years out, so things that we're starting to work on today likely won't even be announced to the public for 18 months or more.

Folks continuing to ask for technology or Numeria content will help Paizo decide that's a choice worth following up on in a "we are a company and need to make choices that make money and help us keep the lights on" for sure. But for me, the passion and interest in this topic is there, and has been from the start. I've had a follow-up to Iron Gods percolating in my head for many many years.

Awesome. I'm glad to hear that this kind of thing is on Paizo's radar. The way that Pathfinder can genre mash has always been one of the things which really attracted me to both the system and the setting.

If push comes to shove...

You're a dinosaur, James, just eat anyone that doesn't want a Tech Guide. Problem solved. ^_^
