Interest Check: Homebrew PF1e Campaign with Variant Magic System

Recruitment

I'm interested in trying out a campaign with this magic system I discovered on RPGdrivethru which is based on colors instead of the traditional schools. Each of the colors has a class associated with it -- some of them overlap with other caster roles. I'd imagine replacing all full casters with these classes, and buffing them up to PF1e power level as needed:

Colours of Magic: Red (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Blue (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Orange (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Black (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Green (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Brown (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Indigo (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Yellow (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Purple (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: White (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Grey (Plot Device)
Colours of Magic: Chrome (Plot Device)

Sounds like a fun concept, lending to more video game or anime tropes. I'd be down to increase my PDF collection to try it.

might be interested. Would want to look at the pdf if you could link it before I committed.

Interesting concept

Can you give an explanation of how the magic system varies? Is it a spell point system? Feat-based? Is there a limit of what colors you can use? Can you mix colors and still be effective?

What are you thinking for as a campaign? Is it all casters?

It basically divides up the spells into different schools that cross some traditional barriers. The links I provide describe the areas each covers -- for example, purple is necromancy and things associated with alienists/abberations -- it's not paired with a different casting system, though that's something we could discuss, as I prefer spell points.

Here is purple:

Quote:

In some worlds, Magic may not be seen as a force in and of itself. In some philosophies, magic can not be classed by types of effect, like Evocation, Illusion or Abjuration. Instead, it might be seen as a result of fundamental aspects of arcane metaphysics.

One such theory holds that all magic is a result of the principles of Colour.

Purple is the colour that flesh becomes when exposed to cold. It is the colour of death, unlife and the chill that is left at the end of all things. When all the other energies are spent and nothing else remains, all that is left is the frozen void. Those that seek to use magic to tap into this ultimate end often see the after effect of the Colour surrounding the aspects of their magic as all matter fades before the power of nothing. It is at the end of the spectrum, before everything fades into the Ultraviolet. Those with mastery over Purple magic are powerful necromancers and users of elemental cold magic. They can also drain the energy out of people and things, occasionally using it to extend their own powers.

Mages that seek to develop the power to use the magic of endings might become Devolutionists. These specialists in Purple magic learn to create a powerful connection to the ultimate void, able to unleash the power of it upon any that should raise their hand against them.

Included in this product:
- 3 new Clerical or Mystical domains
- a linked reclassification of one twelfth of the spells of the players handbook, with some new spell effects to fit the spells into Chromatic Magic Theory
- a whole new character class, the Devolutionist. This spellcaster is a powerful necromancer and user of Purple magic.

Since it's basically dividing up the existing spell system differently, I imagine the question about multi-color casters would be about the same as for multi-school casters.

I'm thinking about some kind of gestalt where one class would be associated with this system.

I think that's the best way to test the new magic system without limiting characters to strictly magic-using choices!

I was looking at some of the links and think that this could be fun. I don't think I would want to play a mage of any sort atleast initially though

I'm annoyed that the publisher doesn't have a collected version.

Can you list a 1-2 line description of the classes that each color has?

What level are you thinking of starting at?

Do you have a campaign hook?

Oh, and are these prepared casters or spontaneous? What stats to they use?

I'm trying to get an idea of this without spending money on all of them for a rough idea of a game.

Well, i just broke down and bought them all. The more I re-read the proposal, the more it interests me. I'll go over the downloads later.
