At this point, there’s a huge stash of AP content out there, and some of the most beloved stuff in it leans heavy on continuity. What do folks most want to see a follow-up on?

Wrath of the Righteous for me, though we're getting some of that in this season's PFS.

Maybe doesn't count as a direct sequel, but a full on Tian Xia campaign could continue the plotline of Jade Regent.

It’s cynical of me, but Fantasy Japan is low on the things I want from an Asian-inspired part of the setting; it’s like pulling teeth to get most Western fantasy media to remember Asian countries outside of it and China exist. I don’t /mind/ Minkai, but it’s low on my interest list compared to a lot of alternatives.

I don't know how you follow up Strange Aeons, but I'd be fascinated in how they do it. That AP had everything.

Yes, I agree, in as much as I don't think a Tian-Xia campaign should be set entirely within Minkai. In fact, you could arguably do one module per country in some kind of continent spanning story.

Minkai might be a good place to start though, as it should be more familiar to players new to the continent.

With the Kingmaker hardcover coming relatively soon, my most-wanted sequel would be The One About the Divorce. Brevoy breaks up so Rostland and Issia are going their separate ways, and it's all the PCs can do to minimize the harm to the other kids as Mom and Dad fight.

Other sequel-ish beats I like to imagine we might see:
Shazarthared is free, and is now aligned with servants of Ranginori to free Atreia, Lysianassa, or Sairazul. She's basically an extraplanar version of an idle rich person who decides to fill time by taking up a worthy cause and dabbling in politics, with Dilix Mahad as a sidekick, an ally, or (as usual) an opportunist looking for the main chance who inserts herself into the action.

Since becoming de-haunted, Brinewall is now an actual port of call for ships going to or coming from points further north, and the PCs have some reason to be there, kind of like the stop in Sandpoint in Return of the Runelords.

What with all the churn in the Abyss, it seems like the minions of Abraxus are overdue to put in an appearance. They should be up to something nefarious to take advantage of things like the Gorilla King dying and the events of Wrath of the Righteous.

The Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye needs to step up and show it will remain true to its founding mission. Even though they were part of the playtest module for PF2e, I'd like to see them again.

I’m a huge Iron Gods girl, but I honestly don’t know how to follow it up; the Technic League are broken, Kevoth-Kul has always felt a little bland to me, and the most obvious plots around either miss the wild, cosmic fun that AP offered. I’d want to get Cassandalee involved somehow, or maybe tease something of the eventual payoff with Triune.

I agree - Numeria is done. I think an Iron Gods sequel would be the planet-hopping one. Casandalee and technology would be involved, as would Eox, but not so much Numeria.

(As an aside, I've always wondered what the relationship is between Eox and the Whispering Tyrant. In my head-canon, Tar-Baphon made contact with Eox early in his career, and has learned a lot of his secrets from them. I've been meaning to run a high-level Mythic standalone for ages, where the PCs go to Eox to prevent the rise of a second Tar-Baphon).

I hate to admit that I can’t think of a compelling Numeria campaign.

Planet-hopping would be my ideal thematic sequel, I agree; maybe agents of the Dominion on Castrovel (elf stuff! lashunta stuff - maybe seeing some of that gender revolution Starfinder mentions!), Akiton (ratfolk! giants with guns! brain psychics!), and so on. Again, an Aballon detour where we get hints of Triune to come would be a joy.

Sneak kasatha into the Player’s Guide, honestly.

Well, Kevoth Kull is trying to get his house back in order so a kingdom building, restoration of the monarchy style AP could fit there. Doesn't tie deeply into the themes of lost technology.

Alien Invasion is my first thought. Flying saucers in the sky Mars Attacks level invasion.

Doing something culturally with Androids could be cool. Someone discovers android creation forges or builds them) and starts to mass produce them to start a war. This might borrow too heavily from the Warforged and the Lord of Blades in Eberron, but it was such a good idea. A good place to introduce different ancestry based androids as well.

Fun thread! :-)

For what it's worth, I've had a few sequal ideas in my head for several Adventure Paths I've worked on in the past. The runelords trilogy is the only one that made it to print so far, but Iron Gods, Jade Regent, and Second Darkness are three in particular I've been noodling over for some time. Iron Gods specifically—if I had to pick one adventure path to do a sequel to and no other, it'd be the plot I've been tinkering with for the Iron Gods sequel.

There's certainly a few elements in Iron Gods that I specifically built in to support this sequel, in any event... story elements, plot developments, and themes that point to the potential new plot. I'm hesitant to do more than tease that at this point though, but yeah. "Iron Gods 2" would be the one I went with at this point.

The most reasonable ones I can think of would be Wrath of the Righteous (Sarkorians fighting the remaining demons) and Tyrant's Grasp. The latter probably won't happen soon since the AP came out 2 years ago and they probably want to keep the Whispering Tyrant around as a villain for a while, but I assume they're going to have an AP addressing that sooner or later.

Disclaimer: I haven't played either of those, so I might not be fully informed here

If WotR 2 had a ton of Sarkorian-perspective stuff, I’d be there.

OK, cool. That gives us some rails to speculate :-)

For me, the biggest Numeria thing missing in Iron Gods is the Kellid Tribes. They are all detailed quite extensively in Land of Fallen Stars, but really only get walk on cameos in the AP. The exception is Kevoth-Kul of course, but he's not really a tribesman any more, he's more a thrall, despot and city-dweller. There is a whole module's worth of plotline with a "unite the tribes" style story, where the growing rift between the indiginious peoples and the hardy settlers can be healed, before it develops into something worse. (At least 1 module, maybe more).

We also didn't get enough dinosaurs. I'm not sure what the plot of dinosaurs are (do they need a plot?), but, yeah, more dinos. Preferably ones that you can ride and have laser guns fitted to them.

Since they were the main antagonist in Doomsday Dawn, this theme is probably still used up.

Additional sequel beats:

Either at the start or the end of a mission of peace and reconciliation, the PCs meet Grand Princess Eutropia before setting out towards Qadira or maybe a Saerenite pilgrimage, as the new ruler tries to steer Taldor in a different direction.

A call back to Hungry Are the Dead, as the Knights of Lastwall hire a team of adventurers to investigate sites of Tar-Baphon's seals, as a way to figure out exactly how he broke loose.

That is incorrect though.

Like yeah, Doomsday Dawn featured Night Heralds and Dominion of the Black, but main dealio of it was the Osirian Doomsday Clocks, not either of them and main villain was barely related to either of them.

Doomsday Dawn really isn't about Dominions of the Black invading Golarion or about alien invasions in general, its about "When starts align, big super bad Aucturn related esoteric occult ritual will conclude". Heck its more Great Old One adventure than Dominions one.

I would see saying that it closes off Dominions of the Black ap as kinda like saying "Crimson Throne featuring Red Mantis Assassins closes them off appearing in Serpent's Skull or having AP featuring them"

Reign of Winter needs a follow up IMO. Details of Queen Anastasia's Irrisen have been vague to say the least.

For a Jade Regent sequel, instead of having an Avistani party travel over the Crown of the World to Minkai, maybe we can have the entire AP set in a fairly small region of Tian Xia?

Iron Gods: I know you said in a later post that this has to be Numerian, but for an Iron Horses AP, I'd like to see the setting being (at least mostly) somewhere other than Numeria, but with frequent references to Numeria and the events in Iron Gods, being in-world-inspired by it.

Jade Regent: See below.

Second Darkness: Haven't made up my mind how I want this yet, but I liked the PbP that I followed part way through, and I have trouble understanding why so many people were turned off by the original.

A Bachuan AP might be a fun way to make that nation less… messy.

I'd like to see a follow up on the events of Mummy's Mask at some point, whether an AP or a standalone adventure. I bought the AP because the Lost Omens World Guide's spoilers got me curious on what happened, and having read the whole AP I'd really like to see the issues surrounding Ulunaat and the remaining pyramids addressed in print.

A Second Darkness sequel would be interesting. Feel like Abraxas would likly be involved and with his cult and followers doing what they are doing at the end of the SD (and to a small extent in the last book of Ruins of Azlabt as well) would be neat to see a follow up story involving that crazy world ending magic/knowledge they want to see spread.

A Hell's Rebels/Hell's Vengeance sequel would be really cool! I doubt Cheliax is going to be defeated anytime soon but the events of those APs leave room open for more stories that could be interesting! I'll admit I'm not entirely sure what they could be but it could be neat to have a story that follows up on the failed glorious reclamation or involves making allies with countries like the newly freed Ravounel to help free other Cheliaxian cities. In Age of Ashes book 3 I think I even recall it mentioning the silver ravens going into the underdark for some reason, maybe that could come into play? I'm mostly just spitballing but Hells Rebels is one of my favorite APs so I'd love to see some followup someday

^Which reminds me I'd like to see Golarion in general and Cheliax in particular in the Golarion equivalent of the 1920s, with Erinyes standing sentinel on severe Art Deco architecture, and canyons of skyscrapers seemingly designed to crush the souls out of those who dare not to bow to the all-seeing power of the State, while yet missing secret rebels who dart furtively through them like rats while dodging both Hellknight motorcades and suspiciously powerful and brazen gangsters . . . .

imho, the best 'Continuing the Campaign' plothook was in Giantslayer, where Nirmathune the Dream titan, who rules a realm on the border of the realm of dreams and the maelstrom has taken an interest in Golarian.

It was just a paragraph, but man, there was so much imagery.

You could have this crazy high fantasy romp, planar travel, etc., while also incorporating occult and horror elements into the campaign... and in the end, the PCs invade the realm of dreams to battle Nirmathune.

I want to see that AP.

[I've even teased Nirmathune as a red herring in my Tyrant's Grasp AP, since I've loved this paragraph since I first saw it like 6 years ago]

The thing that would make Strange Aeons easy to make a sequel for also makes it hard to make a sequel for. You're not really defeating the bad guy so much as pushing the evil stuff they do to you back, what with them being inevitable eldritch whatsits, so they're really easy to have come up again, but kind of difficult to make compelling a second go round.

That being said, and darn if this was explored in Doomsday Dawn (which I still need to read through) it's possible that Strange Aeons and Iron Gods could solve each other. All the various cults and sects who worship the Great Old Ones, or Outer Gods, or their various forms of religio-science, aren't homogenous, and are often at odds. It could be fun to have an AP that gets Golarion stuck in the middle of one of those conflicts, trying to get rid of all parties while leaving their planet a still-livable place after.

That is probably because they are only mentioned in Giantslayer's continue the campaign article. So unless paizo wants to do more with them, there aren't lot of sources on them

James Jacobs mentioned on Paizo Live 4 (somewhere around 01:57: https://youtu.be/SzhvMkd36Mw?t=7000 ) that an Adventure next year will be a sequel to an AP and a sequel to "at least one other stand-alone adventure we've done". Any guesses what AP/Adventure pair might fit this?

Dunno, could be anything really. Like could be Korvosa adventure that is technically sequel to Curse of the Crimson Throne and Academy of Secrets.(or even house on hook street)

Could be to skulls & shackles and plunder & peril

Could be carrion crown & carrion hill

Could be legacy of fire and broken chains if its katapesh adventure

Could be fangwood keep and ironfang legion if its molthune/nirmathas related

Could be any of varisia related aps combined with varisia related modules

Reign of winter and Witchwar Legacy?

War for the Crown and Tomb of Iron Medusa?

Heck could be Iron Gods and Doom comes to dustpawn in the "dominion of the black adventure woooo" way ;D

You get the point, easiest assumption is that ap and module is connected by plot or location or themes, but for all we know it could be something entirely unpredictable

All three released 2nd edition APs have a post campaign section. The Agents of Edgewatch one is small for sure, but it's just completely incorrect to say: "they've removed {{continue the campaign article}} from 2nd Edition APs".

i was going through Abomination and Fists, and there's like a sentence in both.

There's great material in all these books for additional material to add to an AP or a homebrew - I'm going to add a ghost from Abomination to my Tyrant's Grasp game - but they don't have the multi-page section which all the 1st edition APs had.

Since he's said good things about an Iron Gods sequel, I'd say:
  • 1. Iron Gods and Doom Comes to Dustpawn
  • 2. Ironfang Invasion and Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale
  • 3. Second Darkness and Down the Blighted Path
  • 4. Legacy of Fire and Broken Chains
  • 5. Hell's Rebels and No Response from Deepmar
  • 6. Serpent's Skull and River into Darkness
  • 7. Jade Regent and The Feast of Ravenmoor
  • 8. Curse of the Crimson Throne and Academy of Secrets...

There are lots of possibilities. Maybe a Halloween adventure for Carrion Crown or Strange Aeons and Carrion Hill?

As much as I'd love to see an Iron gods sequel we haven't gotten a technology guide or some equivalent for 2e yet so I sadly doubt it. My personal hope is it might be hells rebels or a runelords sequel but honestly, getting a sequel path in general is very exciting, and we don't even know if it'll be a 3-part path or 6-part path considering quest for the frozen flame is 3-parts so there's plenty of exciting possibilities!

Wait im dumb its a standalone adventure that's a sequel to a path not the other way around, ignore me lol
