So the dramatic collapse of Gauntlight is an awesome way to end the AP but...what happens to any NPCs the PCs might have spared or bypassed, given they're frightened and possibly paralyzed during the collapse? Do they all just die when the Abomination Vaults collapse in?

Presumably the PCs are high enough level that they can just teleport back to Otari fresh from their victory, but what about all those drow?

I was under the impression it was the light house pillar itself that collapses, not all the natural caves and other subterranean features. I just don't think they would have a way back to the surface, unless the party took the time to make a new portal somewhere that connects with the others.

When I read the ending, it sounded like it would collapse all the way to the vault at the bottom, and my current favored interpretation is that it leaves a big round hole in all the spaces.

All told, I'd probably skip the load bearing boss angle entirely.

I see now that we should have been much more clear about the collapse. It is only the lighthouse and its footprint--that is, the chambers directly underneath it--that collapse down to the lowest level. This basically leaves a big circular pit in the middle of the dungeon.

If the heroes left friends or allies in the rooms directly beneath the lighthouse...then they probably aren't very good friends, seeing how those rooms are malignant with ribbons of nasty energy in most cases. And people who couldn't get out of those rooms in time would indeed get smooshed.

The lighthouse does extend all the way down to the lowest level. It would probably be fairly catestrophic for it to collapse, but I don't think it would destroy all of those multiple levels of massive caverns and tunnels. Maybe you can have the players uncover some information as they go, in their research about the tower that it will collapse when Bellacora is finally gone for good. That would create some interesting tension in interacting with NPCs below ground. Do they tell them everything? would that cause their allies to become hostile? Could the PCs help them reinforce certain levels/find new caves away from the central tower specifically?

Ohhhhh...I thought "Gauntlight" encompassed the entirety of the megadungeon. If there's still dungeon left after that, then that's fine. It also makes escaping the collapse that much simpler; the PCs don't have to get out of the dungeon entirely, just out of the room. Thanks for the clarification!

Gauntlight is just the "lighthouse" itself, not all the rooms around it. There will be some collateral damage, sure, but how much there might be is left to the GM beyond the central buried tower of the light itself.

The dungeon as a whole is the Abomination Vaults.
