Rules question: Rhoka Sword abilites

Rules Discussion

I noticed that abilities of Rhoka sword differ between

Bestiary 2 (p. 273):

Bestiary 2 wrote:
Rhoka swords are in the sword group and have the deadly d8 and two-hand 1d10 traits

and Extinction Curse 5 (p. 83):

I would prefer an official answer from a Paizo employee, as I'll use it for "official" German translation done by Ulisses.

Thanks in advance.

Not a Paizo employee, but I guess the first one might be correct, mostly because I find rather odd the interaction between 1d12 two-hand trait + 1d10 fatal trait.

For example, rolling 4d12 would result into rolling 5d10 on a critical hit.

Also, every single weapon with the fatal trait has a dice which is one or two steps smaller than the one given by the fatal trait.

Archives of Nethys lists it as the first and it's the official online source so that's about as official as you're likely to get.

Liberty's Edge

The description of the Rhoka Sword on Archives of Nethys is the same as the one in the Bestiary 2.

Since AoN is the official rules site for PF2, as well as the place most people go to for the PF2 rules details, you should use what they write.

The developer of the Extinction Curse AP, Ron Lundeen, says to use the Bestiary version here.

Perfect. Thanks a lot.

The contrast isn't that weird. Its just a few things all being true at once:

1. Saying they need an official developer response does not, as a rule, work. People that spend too much of their life on these boards know that and are likely to give their best answer of where you can look instead.

2. AoN is where they will often be saying to look because there isn't usually somewhere better.

3. In this specific case, there was a statement previously made that could be cited.

Seems like a fairly logical progression to me.

Yeah, the comments before mine were proven correct. The OP was lucky there was a quote from a Paizo employee to be found the forum at all. That normally isn't the case.

He was also lucky that someone that knew about the thread looked at this one: I know I never saw that thread [not a DM and it's a DM resource thread].

Actually, I had never seen that thread before either. I saw this tread and did a search of 'rhoka' on the Pathfinder RPG discord (where they also host AoN feedback). The same question had come up, and someone there posted the link that I then shared.

Ah, well then he's lucky you went the extra mile then. Myself, I don't wander through discord. ;)

I think normally the item that comes out/published later is considered to generally be more accurate. However, I would have normally imagined the AP would have been a preview of what eventually made it into the Bestiary, so would expect the Rulebook to normally be the one printed more recently. However, in this case, I think they came out the same month. (Looking at AoN, they appear to be listed as 5/27/2020 so that throws out that option)

As mentioned, Archive of Nethys should be where you go to see what is currently considered official. I'd say you could check errata, but it doesn't get updated that quickly, and I can't recall, the AoN may have access to the errata first so when they publish it, it gets swapped in then, I honestly can't recall.
