Wizard School Feats

Ive been thinking about the things i would really love to see in secrets of magic and one of the biggest things is for the wizards feat list to be a bit more interesting and incorporate your school and Arcane thesis. I think this could best be done with school prereq feats that the universalist can nab at a higher level.

For example the abjurer could get feats that really focus on powering up the shield spell and increasing your defences in other ways. Basically making you a far tankier wizard than others or a conjurer that gets feats to power up summoning a tad. I think this would give Wizards more of an identity from one another and makes choosing a school a bit more impactful. Does this sound like a cool idea?

Yes yes yes. I hope to see alternatives for lackluster early wizard feats so badly lol

Yeah, we saw peeks of this in the APG (and imo the sorcerer got some school related feats the wizard should have gotten) but some of them were kind of lacklustre. If this could get expanded on in SoM then it would be perfect.

There's awesome feats if you are an illusionists.

And there's a feat for Transmuter too, only they don't work.

Hopefully those school feats can be full blown school archetypes so any caster can share in the love. Evoker archetype for dps minded blasters. Abjurer archetype for those who wanna be brick walls. Conjurer for any caster that wants their summons to do a little extra. That's my biggest hope from secrets of magic

if that's the case it'd be nice to have a feat for wizards that gives the archetype "for free" if it's their chosen school.

Like a lvl 4 feat that gives you your school's archetype + an archetype feat you can only use for that archetype.

Absolutely

In that same vein, it'd be nice if you could have the Order Explorer variant for school specialists. Wizards who "Major" in Abjuration and "Minor" in Divination to get access to other school powers. Frankly, I think leaning into the whole college aspect makes sense given the emphasis on Thesis.

I know the content for this book is already well off for publishing, so if it's not in then maybe we'll get something like this in the future!

I support developing School angle of Wizards who is THE class that cares about magic schools in the first place. Also Magus seems appropriate for School content development, as they seem heavily "based off" Wizard paradigm (just with gish added in). Somebody mentioned Feats building off of Theses, but honestly I think that is less of a priority.

That sounds like the best way to do it. Archetypes that focus on a school of magic that all spellcasters get access to but the wizard can get early access to through an early level feat that connects to your school.
