Alchemist and metamagic feats.

Rules Questions

I have looked at the questions and by RAW the answer is no. What I'm interested in has there been an update in the last few years that changed that answer? I am building a GunChemist Alchemist. He is a Hobgoblin so he needs Disguise Self for social situations and an Extend Metamagic would be fantastic

Technically, yes!

Your studies into how all things are interconnected have taught you to cast a very limited number of spells. Select a single spell from the sorcerer/wizard spell list that is at least 2 levels lower than your highest-level extract known. You can prepare and cast this spell as an arcane spell. Preparing the spell uses up an extract slot 1 level higher than the spell’s level. Your caster level is equal to your alchemist level, and your save DCs and concentration checks are Intelligence-based. You’re considered to have this spell on your spell list for purposes of prerequisites, spell completion items, and spell trigger items.

You may select this discovery more than once. Each time, it grants you access to another spell from the sorcerer/wizard spell list.

A hat of disguise might suit the job better though.

Money is an issue.

As an added loss of usability when compared with older versions, it has no stated activation method, so either "use activated", but you wear an hat, you don't use it, or "command word". I would say that it require a command word. Repeating it every 10 minutes, plus the activation of a spell being noticeable, makes it almost useless in social situations.

Going to the toilet every 10 minutes will at least generate some joke (assuming there is a toilet, something not granted in a fantasy game).

Say it like a toast, and take a shot every 10 min?

And if you have several magic items, pretend to have Tourette's and say weird things all the time!

if money is an issue there are items that let you disguise self but with limitation. they cost a lot less though.

some options:
small children disguise. 800 gp base price 400 to craft.

false face limited to one appearance and not as cheap at 1,600 gp base price.

For Hat of Disguise my old group simply followed AD&D rules for it. You activated it it stayed on until you turned it off. That's how it was meant to be. After ten minutes you need to say a word. And some magic items require an action to activate saying nothing about how. So Somatic for a Hat of Disguise rub or twist your hair.
I though Pazio before switching to Second Ed, something I felt they didn't need to do, had made feats for Alchemists that acted like standard Metamagic feats for their Infusions.
