"The Village of Hommlet has grown up around a crossroads in a woodland. Once far from any important activity, it became embroiled in the struggle between gods and demons when the Temple of Elemental Evil arose but a few leagues away. Luckily for its inhabitants, the Temple and its evil hordes were destroyed a decade ago, but Hommlet still suffers from incursions of bandits
and strange monsters .."
So here's the deal: I've always loved this 1st edition, D&D module written by Gary Gygax himself, having both run and played it when I was younger, and it just plain holds a soft spot in my heart.
I've GM'd games on table-top for years, and have even run a couple in play-by-post, but never here, and never for Pathfinder, and I'm getting the itch to take a run at it. But how to go about it?
The idea:
So as not to get overwhelmed, IF I go about converting the original module over for Pathfinder, I'd want the game to have a very classic and slightly Greyhawk-y feel. It's something I miss and don't see much around here. (Not complaining, just noticing)
Rules: Pathfinder 1st edition
Party size: 4-5, Balanced group encouraged
Races: Human, Dwarf, Halfing, Elf, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Gnome, Tiefling
Classes: CORE only, no Archetypes or Alternate features
Stats: 20 pt Buy
Traits 2
Alignment: No evil
Posting Rate: Standard 1/day, Once on Weekends
So, does this sound like something anyone here would be interested in even with the race/class restrictions listed above? Before anyone asks, I don't necessarily have any plans to run The Temple of Elemental Evil as a follow up...but if everyone has fun and stays with it...you never know.
Again, this is NOT a recruitment post. Just an interest check.

If Golarion, Andoran would be perfect,...near the Chelaxian border... with Isger being where the Temple of Elemental Evil was if it lead to that. (my 2 cents)
anyway. im a sucker for those older AD&D modules...they were some of the best. And to Pathfinder-ize them would be awesome
The Slavers...Saltmarsh...Bone Hill...all wesome

I've been playing D&D (and now Pathfinder) since before Hommlet was published. I'd love to play, but I have to warn that I did GM this (albeit in 1982 or so, so my memory of the specifics may be a bit hazy.)
I am fully conversant in both Greyhawk and Golarion. And I'm loving even the hint that we might get to play ToEE!

I might consider running a highly modified Temple of Elemental Evil, or more likely, The Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil...but at this point I'm only going to commit to running Hommlet.
After some thought, I've decided that the game will be set in Greyhawk, and I'll just make sure I provide some links for players to get acquainted with what they need to know.

Plus the various tourny modules like Slavers, Lost Temple of...something Aztec.
Plus the D&D modules like Master of the Desert Nomads and Earthshaker.

hustonj and I are in a PF1 Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh. I’d be very interested (and kudos for making this set in Greyhawk rather than Golarion) if this were PF2. Any chance, given you are converting this, of using PF2 rules?
Greyhawk rules. :D
Honestly, it's unlikely that I'd go PF2 since I haven't really made the dive into the newer edition yet. I might look into how different it is and see, but no promises. And Dread, I'll be starting a new thread for the actual campaign recruitment.

Yep, Greyhawk.
PF1.
More and more likely The Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil rather than just Village of Hommlet. I mean, why not? We'll at least get through Hommlet, so...Recruiting post yet to be made. Got some reading up to do...
Well, it looks like you'll have lots of applicants. However, I think you would have even more enthusiasm if you expanded the class choices to include more than core. One of the better parts of PF1 is the wide variety of classes and archetypes available...

I get that. However I'm going for a somewhat more "classic" feel that is harder to find these days. Not judging...just my preference for this campaign.

@Thanks for the heads up Plastic Dragon. I’ll bow out, as much as I love PF1 with all of its options and rules (even Core only) I really am trying to grok the new system, so all my PbPs from now on will have to be PF2. Sad that there are so few non PFS PF2 recruitments...
As for ToEE, I’m really unfamiliar with Return to ToEE and will research it. I love Hommlet and I love the flavor of the Temple but it’s actual presentation and overall architecture I found bizarrely boring and yet bizarrely weird and uninteresting. Only from reading it as a DM that never got to run it...
Yes, SSoSM is noir-classic at its finest. We have a fantastic DM and great players. hustonj puts a lot of effort into verisimilitude and knows his Greyhawk. I’m just a hack playing on tropes and fears of my teen-aged character...

Yeah, 'classic' feel has a lot of nostalgia for me. I still pine for the good old days of AD&D where you rolled the dice and then figured out what class you could be :)
Gotta say I prefer Return to the Temple over the original....despite the soft space in my heart for the original.
The problem with the original ToEE is that while Hommlet is amazing, after the long wait, the actual module(s) didn't live up to the hype. The Return version is better. Still not the greatest, but something I can work with. :)
I've decided that even though Return starts above 1st level, I'm going to stick with 1st level chars and go with 5 or 6 characters. Should balance out with some tweaking.

I would certainly be interested, but Core only is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I know some people love it, but I honestly don't know why. One of the greatest things about PF1 is the sheer diversity of character creation (mind you, sometimes almost too much). I can see restricting it, but not that much.
Just my opinion, though.
