Smaller quadrupeds have less carry capacity than smaller bipeds?

Quadrupeds can carry heavier loads than bipeds can. Multiply the values corresponding to the creature’s Strength score from Table 7–4 by the appropriate modifier, as follows: Fine ×1/4, Diminutive ×1/2, Tiny ×3/4, Small ×1, Medium ×1-1/2, Large ×3, Huge ×6, Gargantuan ×12, Colossal ×24.

So a tiny quadruped actually carries 25% less weight than a tiny bipedal creature? I'm thinking of situations like bugs or tiny faeries pulling carriages or such. Is this a typo?

By the way it is worded, a quadruped gains no benefit at small size, and actually is weaker at smaller sizes for having four legs.

I think re-reading this multiple times I've inferred the real meaning of the phrase with context. I believe you are meant to multiply the base carry capacity by these figures instead.

So instead of this:
Large ×2, Huge ×4, Gargantuan ×8, Colossal ×16. A smaller creature can carry less weight depending on its size category, as follows: Small ×3/4, Tiny ×1/2, Diminutive ×1/4, Fine ×1/8.

You do this:
Fine ×1/4, Diminutive ×1/2, Tiny ×3/4, Small ×1, Medium ×1-1/2, Large ×3, Huge ×6, Gargantuan ×12, Colossal ×24.

Meaning a tiny quadruped would have 1/2 carry capacity instead of 1/4. Does anybody support this assertion?

Yeah, that sounds like what I'd take your original quote to mean. "Quadrupeds use these values instead of the normal size multipliers for carry capacity"

I'm no rules lawyer, but that's my take on it at least :p

Bigger and Smaller Creatures: The figures on Table 7–4 are for Medium bipedal creatures. A larger bipedal creature can carry more weight depending on its size category, as follows: Large ×2, Huge ×4, Gargantuan ×8, Colossal ×16.

It's pretty straightforward

1. Is the creature a biped? If so, multiply the normal capacity in Table 7-4 by the modifier in the first paragraph.
2. Is the creature a quadruped? If so, multiply the normal capacity in Table 7-4 by the modifier in the second paragraph.

According to Table 7-4 a Medium biped with a Strength of 10 would have a light load capacity of 33 lbs. So a Tiny biped with a Strength of 10 would have a light load of 16.5 lbs. A Tiny quadruped with a Strength of 10 would have a light load of 24.75 lbs.

You should read the whole piece, not half of it:

Encumbrance by Weight: If you want to determine whether your character’s gear is heavy enough to slow him down more than his armor already does, total the weight of all the character’s items, including armor, weapons, and gear (see appropriate tables in Chapter 6).

Compare this total to the character’s Strength on Table 7–4.

Every time you multiply the same base values, those from table Table 7-4. The other modifiers didn't interact with each other, they are always applied to the base table.

Yeah, quadruped still always carry more than a biped of same size and strength.

You apply the modifier for either biped or quadruped (which already includes size) from the table.
