Lorefinder Episode: Cheliax, the Infernal Empire

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I didn't see any rule that advertising something like this was not allowed, so let me know if I should stop!

So here's some shameless self promotion of the Venture Captains Youtube Channel,
the link to our latest Lorefinder Video, going over the Empire of Cheliax.

Feedback is very important to us! Let us know what you think.

Cheliax is personally my favorite location in Golarion, and HV has been one of the most fun Adventure Paths to play. While working on the episode I noticed how much this nation got screwed during the lifespan of First Edition. Is the time for a glorious comeback coming in 2e!?

This is probably an overstatement. Over the period 4707 - 4719, Cheliax lost about 10 per cent of its land area and about 12 per cent of its population, but this land was not strategically crucial either in terms of raw materials, industry, or strategic position. It also lost a big but not irreplaceable fleet, and has been driven back on its internal market for slaves, but the latter is a blessing in disguise, since it will necessarily encourage technological innovation. It is still by far the most populous and powerful (both militarily and economically) country on the Inner Sea, and more importantly it has been able to effectively purge its internal enemies. The political conflict within the empire is now solely between the Crown, the Hellknights, and the Church of Asmodeus, groups whose squabbles are relatively petty and who are united in most important things. It's not even an organic conflict; there is apparently some occult force manipulating it, which may or may not be addressed in due course. If anything, the country's in a better position in 4720 than it was in 4707.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I wouldn't mind if it all came tumbling down, but after 2 back to back APs in Cheliax, I doubt we'll be seeing that.
