Link Of note is that they have rights to the entire Conan library, so they could develop spin offs (Red Sonja seems a likely choice).

So Amazon dropped it and Netflix picks it up

Cool

It's not clear to me if it's literally the same show Amazon dropped, or if when Amazon dropped it the rights got sold to a new production company, which took it to Netflix. What's amusing is that it's being produced by a company called Pathfinder Media.

It's a different project. The Amazon project was being handled by a guy called Ryan Condal, the creator/showrunner of COLONY, and his plan was to adapt all of the Howard stories in chronological order.

Amazon were on the fence about it until they greenlit LORD OF THE RINGS: THE SECOND AGE and WHEEL OF TIME back-to-back, and went to pilot on THE DARK TOWER. They were also keen on making the CULTURE show, based on Iain Banks' novels, and had just picked up THE EXPANSE, so they thought they were overloaded on SFF projects so passed on the CONAN show (subsequently they ditched THE DARK TOWER because the pilot was weak and then Banks' estate decided not to proceed with CULTURE, perhaps realising that Banks' values and ethos were in diametric opposition to Amazon's).

Condal was then hired at HBO to work on the GAME OF THRONES franchise, and he's now the main writer and showrunner on HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, the Dance of Dragons-set series which has been greenlit and is casting at the moment. So he's no longer available to work on the property.

This is a completely fresh take on the property, not related to Condal's idea or the Schwarzenegger-attached LEGEND OF CONAN project that's been gestating as film for years.

Look all I know is I want Conan to fight some Old Ones. Okay?

Scarab Sages

I shall be cautiously optimistic. Netflix has put out some good stuff, and some utter crap.

Even moderately faithful adoptions of some REH Conan stories would be great.

But I'm afraid the well has been too poisoned by the movies and even by the old comic versions.
