The guide seems to contradict itself and is exceedingly unclear
"The following are rewards that were available in the past, but are no longer available."
"Starting in season 2, Adventures no longer give Fame. There will be a new Faction boon System coming out, in the next few months, and a mechanism to transition your boons over to the new system. Once the new system is in place, you will no longer be able to buy Faction boons with fame. The current date for the transition is 10/20/2020"
Are things that I have purchased in the past (hirelings, etc) still available until 10/20/2020 (or whenever) or not?
Can I still buy things with fame until 10/20/2020 (or whenever) or not?

I have not had a chance to read the new guide.
I would say "yes" to both of your questions, given the information provided.
I have not seen anywhere that rewards purchased with Fame would go away. You don't lose a wayfinder, or an uncommon item that was given to another character, so I don't see why you would lose a hireling.
The two statements need to be taken together. The first says the rewards are no more. The second is a grandfather clause for how one can gain the reward.

The part about the rewards being unavailable is the standard language of the guide, the next part is the language allowing a temporary exemption to that earlier rule. They just didn't want to have to add the initial line or change it later, instead saying "You normally can't do this, BUT you can until this date."
Yes they still work as normal.
Yes you can still buy them. As to whether or not that's a good idea, I'm waiting for more info.

I will put a through review of boons on the list of things to do when I return. For now, assume all boons are always "slotted" during scenarios.
Beyond that, use your judgement as to what makes the most sense.
Remember that even boons like advanced, hireling, and promotional you can slot as many as you want, you just can only *benefit* from one per session.

Earlier, when I clicked on it, I received a giant ERROR, but it's working now.
Do we get the Fame we spent on extra Hirelings back, now that we can only slot one?
Also, the inability to benefit from item bonuses is new.
Do we get full refunds on the items we purchased for our Hirelings?
Not a lot that my character who's Untrained in Medicine can do with those Level 3 Tools.
