That Chisel Though! (Spoilers)

So my party just finished book four and got the guiding chisel.

The party crafter is now insisting that making winged boots out of marble is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I don't even really blame her. Holy CRAP that is a powerful item. I've never seen anything like it. It basically by itself completely reframes the "how does Crafting compare to Earn Income?" discussion.

I'm certainly not going to nerf something my player is so excited about, but I'm definitely still a bit in shock.

Is it just me? Anyone else have thoughts on this item?

I dunno, boots sound kinda off. Runes though? Maybe. Rings? Wands? Aoen Stones? Some nice potential options. I'd probably limit it to small, hard items, which could be crafted with a chisel (maybe anything could be, but large items would take so long, that it would negate any time saving, imo).

My party read it and since they know the GM they have they do not try any of that winged boots of marble stuff.
Really? Boots of marble? Come on, that just shouts of a player trying to do one over the GM. Yes the item is potent, but... only if a player takes advantage of that.
"If it’s unclear whether you could use the Guiding Chisel to Craft an item, the GM decides."

So you decide if your party now turns to the Stone Age...

Sure, the Boots are a silly idea (and I shot them down)... but that doesn't stop the player from literally quadrupling their crafting speed on, as Bast says, rings, wands, staves... anything that can reasonably be made out of stone or wood.

So? Let them do it, by now they are Level 15th, they are going for one of the greatest citys in the World where they would have almost anything to buy (as long as they can find it).

Since this AP was made to have lots of Downtime betweeen Adventures is that so many things they want to build?

It will disrupt your campaign?

If not just put down the silly ones (like marble boots of flying :P ), and keep playing on.

My players are so blind in using just the keys to the portal as keys that they forget each one as it's powers...

Real fast though, where does it say wood?

Also how would this synchronize with the ability to upgrade their Citadel? Could they build upgrades in 1/4th the time ?

The part where it says "If it’s unclear whether you could use the Guiding Chisel to Craft an item, the GM decides." I think using a magical chisel to finely carve wood is a reasonable ask considering that's, you know, what they're supposed to do. I'd even allow it for gemcutting and runes. But definitely not for boots.

Personally I wouldn't allow it for the upgrade activities. Those strike me as more furnishing and outfitting than physically shaping a space. Even the defensive upgrade is more "metal braces and skillful engineering". Plus those require teams of people to accomplish, and only one person can use the chisel. And it's not even item creation and shouldn't be beholden to things that modify item creation rules.
