Reactions after Waking Up

Rules Discussion

The Reactions in Encounters rules state that "The GM determines whether you can use reactions before your first turn begins, depending on the situation in which the encounter happens." I would rule that, if you're asleep, you don't have your reaction before your first turn. Do you still get it on your first turn if you spent it asleep? Like, say your turn passes while you're asleep, and then you wake up due to taking damage. Would you have your reaction?

I'd go with yes, because if you've been woken up by damage you're already at plenty of disadvantage and don't need further downsides.

I agree with NobleDrake on this one.

I'd lean towards having it available after you've been awakened, but not before. Aside from how amusing 'Hit Snooze Bar' would be as a reaction with a trigger 'Your alarm clock rings and you don't feel like getting up yet', the rules do kind'a say that if you're unconscious from, say, being asleep, 'You can't act.' That said ... by the point in your example you've presumably slept through a decent chunk of the battle. If you're out of it enough to not notice everyone yelling around you, reasonably you're not awake enough to react. I can't imagine how you use Glimpse of Redemption while you're so sound asleep you're not hearing your ally being clubbed five metres away from you.
