Can we talk about the Sigil?

Summoner Class

I understand what the sigil is supposed to do, but as written the sigil goes WAY beyond that:

"The link between you and your eidolon takes the
form of a magic glowing sigil on each of your bodies.
This symbol can’t be obscured either magically or via
mundane means, as it either shines through the magic or
appears over top of whatever you use to cover it."

Can't be obscured by anything? So if I close my eyes, my eyelids won't obscure my view of them? A wall won't? A mountain? Invisibility?

Anyway, clearly the intent is just that the link between eidolon and character is always obvious, rather than anything silly like the above. I'd just suggest taking another pass on the wording used to describe the sigil.

I feel like the intent of the sigil is so that anybody who looks for it and can see it, so they know that the person behind the rampaging chimerabeast is you.

It's not to give away your presence in a dark room or to make your sartorial choices difficult.

I agree entirely- which is why I think the language they chose to express that needs to be rewritten.

Since it's not locked to the forehead anymore (see art of new iconic), just hold your hand behind your back. They still have to be in the right spot to see it, it's not visible through mountains or anything, etc...

Your body is incapable of obscuring it.

I'm going to say that's an absurd reading of it to say that it glows through your entire body such that it's visible from any and all angles.

It's obviously not what they intend, but it's literally what they have written.

it does say that it glows. i would rule it to interfere with hiding. glowing runes and magic energy tethers are a fantasy trope that would be OK to apply here. i would also say it was suppressed if the eidolol was not summonsed.

edit: I was just playing x-com and when the aliens do their psionic links, there is a very visible glowing beam connecting them.

Its actually not even clear that the sigil doesn't glow even when the Eidolon isn't manifested. Your link remains, see 'your connection also allows you to communicate... at all times, even when they aren't manifested.'

I think I know what the intent here is, but as written, you've got a constant night-light on your body that shines through every layer you put on top of it. Forever.

... can you read by its light? Do you never need darkvision?

With Light being a cantrip, its not really a huge deal either way. Ask your GM?

So what happens if someone casts darkness?

In one of the novels, didn't a summoner hide their sigil by wearing a helmet? Seems like a retcon if it's now always supposed to be visible.

Presumably if its on the bottom of your foot, the sigil glows through the top.

@Krispy- I find guidance as to what game effects are to be useful.
Does it inflict penalties to stealth? disguise? Can you signal someone from a window?

Identifying an attached creature is great from a metagame perspective, but the implementation has an large amount of game world effects that simply aren't addressed.

The default game set up makes low light and darkvision a big deal to get a hold of, for many characters is either a starting ability or a never ability. A constant light effect is similar, especially if it always kills a stealth approach to problem solving.

It'd be like Superman wearing the big S crest all the time, even while doing the Clark Kent reporter thing.

It might be better to focus on the coordinated activity. That is a lot tougher to hide.
