Harrington Benedict is a young mutant from the Bronx whose powers manifested at age twelve. His mutations caused bronzed scales to grow over his skin, elongated his mouth and nose into a draconic snout, and caused him to grow a tail. It also permanently stuck him at just over 4 feet tall. Additionally, his physical mutations allow him to see in the dark and track and identify creatures by smell alone.

In addition to his obvious physical mutations, Harrington's body has become a massive conductor, allowing him to store, discharge, and control electrical energy in the form of a blast from his mouth or an arc between two nearby targets. His control over static friction and electricity, as well as his enhanced musculature, allows him to move at an accelerated rate.

Harrington ran away from home shortly after his mutations first began the bodily changes. He spent two years in the streets and sewers of the city, doing many unfortunate things in the name of survival.

At age 14, he was identified as a mutant and picked up by an anti-mutant group called Purity. His hellish stay in Purity's custody as they tried to "purge" him of his "mutant wickedness" left lasting mental scars that present themselves most often in ptsd-related claustrophobia and agitation.

He was rescued from Purity shortly after his 15th birthday by SHIELD during a raid on the Purity facility where he was imprisoned. The mission commander was impressed with his resolve during the debriefing, never giving his name, age, or any other identifying detail. When asked his age, he claimed to be 22 years old, and his mutation made it impossible to tell otherwise.

He was recruited into a special mutant-only SHIELD team whose task was to take down Purity and rescue other mutants from their clutches, a task Harrington, now going by the code-name Bronze Lightning, took to with relish. This squad, designated Division X, operated for only seven months before the revelation of Hydra's involvement in all things SHIELD, including Division X.

Hydra had been seeking to exploit the "rescued" mutants to their own purposed, often performing experiments to extrapolate, enhance, or cancel their powers for Hydra's nefarious purposes. When Harrington discovered the truth, he felt as if he had both been betrayed and betrayed his fellow mutants.

Once again, he returned to the streets of New York, this time determined to chart his own destiny free from depredation and manipulation.

Spellscaled Kobold Martial Disciple (Acrobatics) Monk (Speedster Dedication), Super Sniffer or Echolocation. Kobold Breath (Bronze-30' Line Electricity), Spellscale- Electric Arc, Cat Fall, Titan Wrestler, Dragon Stance)

Thanks for your submission! Looks great!

Anyone else planning to play a PC that's still in high school? If so, maybe our PCs are already acquainted (either friendly or not).

Fan Kwan is a shy, studious youth, athletic and handsome, but still somewhat socially awkward, being Chinese Anerican with different values and upbringing than most of his inner city peers.

He is probably on the chess team, a top student who tutors less mathematically inclined students (or outright does their homework for them) in exchange for extra spending money.

He has just gotten his learner's permit, and was looking forward to taking on more responsibility as a delivery driver for his family's Chinese food emporium, Fan Imports, when disaster struck.

The Hand, a ruthless secret society of assassins, tried to force his uncle, Fan Leng, to join. He refused, so they attacked Fan Imports, killing Kwan's father, mother, and two brothers. He himself was mortally wounded, but his Uncle Leng (his kung fu sifu) fought off the Hand ninjas and saved him from death by administering a super rare magical herb imported from Tibet.

Nursed back to health at Uncle Leng's private apartment over his dojo in the Upper East Side, Kwan thirsts for revenge. He has adopted the codename Mad Monkey after finding an old theater mask representing the Monkey King among his late father's belongings. Wearing this and his traditional kung fu uniform, he has begun to prowl the streets at night, gathering info on the Hand and putting low level criminals in jail or the ER.

Uncle Leng cautions Kwan to be patient, and is teaching the young man everything he knows of Shao Lin style boxing. Fan Kwan has recently earned his black belt, but he is young and still has much to learn before he is ready to avenge his family.

Great to see the entries coming in! Keep it up, people!

Backstory:

The lands of the Britons were under attack. The Romans had fled long ago, their last stubborn remnants persisting in doomed garrisons or decadent, secluded estates.

A new power had arisen, led by King Arthur Pendragon. The Knights of the Round Table now ruled the land, fighting off Saxons from the east and barbaric Picts from the north. It was a time of knights, witches, and chivalry. The sage Merlin sent heroic warriors to combat the foul followers of Mordred and Morgan le Fay while their King waged war against the invaders. Heroes great and small roamed Britain, and it was into this time that Tiernan Cardew was born. His family had ruled a petty barony in Wales since time immemorial, and as was expected of the son of a lord, Tiernan went off to become a knight and join the heroes of the land.

He was made a page, learning the ways of combat, faith, and the courtly graces. He excelled in these, going so far as earning the title of squire under a knight of the Round Table itself, one Aglaval o Galis.

Through the fiercest battlefields and the thickest intrigues of court, Tiernan deftly handled his way through, and on his twentieth birthday was knighted by King Pellinore, bade to roam the lands as a member of the Table of Errant Companions in hopes that one day he might earn one of the seats at Pendragon’s hallowed table.

And so, he did. He rescued maidens from foul wyrms and repelled bandit raids single handedly. On one occasion a barrow-wight had awoken, furious for a group of peasants disturbing it’s endless slumber. Tiernan convinced it to stand down, that it’s anger was misplaced.

It was for this deed he earned an audience from Merlin, that fabled sage. The old druid’s chambers were dim and smoky as Tiernan entered and kneeled. He knew not what the old man would request, but surely it would be monumentous.

”You kneel before me, your fate unclear. I, however, have seen your destiny,” the wizard said as he turned to look at Tiernan, ”You seek the Round Table, and if you win victory in this quest, a seat you shall have. A pagan sorceress gathers warriors in the north. Her foul and fickle magics poison the land, and her teachings poison the mind’s of the people. Drive her away, and I shall give my word that you deserve a seat at our King’s table. Will you take this quest, brave knight?”

Without hesitation, Tiernan agreed. With that, he set out, riding hard to the north. It was three days later he found the camp of the sorceress, and he rode forward, proclaiming a challenge to the lady of the outpost.

She rode out alone, two ravens perched upon her shoulders, the sky darkening with every step her jet black horse took. Sir Tiernan tried to fight. With all of his strength and his faith, he tried. It was useless.

He felt himself kneel before the sorceress, gazing upon her with adoration and love and deep, total revulsion. She leaned down, kissing him upon the cheek and whispering in his ear that he would sleep until his name would be uttered once more.

All went dark.

He awoke again, feeling as if his arms were made of lead and his head full of sand. A man dressed in strange blue cloth yelled in terror, dropping a square of some sort of glowing glass as he fled. Lanterns unlike any he’d seen burned upon the ceiling of the room he found himself in, and some sort of clear box trapped him.

And yet he had his armor, his sword, and his shield. As he smashed his way out of the crate, he thought back on the words of the sorceress. Was this a dream that his dying mind had concocted? Or was he in another time?

The building he wandered was beyond the splendor of even King Arthur’s court, filled with such wonders that he could scarcely believe them. Animals that did not move, a great stone head like some pagan idol, and the bones of dragons on grand display. Tiernan could not fathom where he was, but he had all he needed. He would face this strange new world with his arms, his honor, and the conviction of a knight.

Appearance and Personality:

Sir Tiernan is a muscular, almost British looking man. He is clean-shaven, with roughly cut brown hair. All he awoke with was his suit of armor, his sword, and his shield, which he wears whenever possible. He also wears a silver Celtic cross on a chain around his neck, a keepsake given to him by his father on the day he left to become a squire. It is his closest reminder of the world he lost, and will not part with it under pain of death.

The oath of knight is something that cannot be replaced, and it is to the five tenets of loyalty, mercy, bravery, generosity, and honor that Sir Tiernan’s very being revolves around. His awakening has thrown him into a world that is entirely unfamiliar, and his knightly ideals are, as such, all the more important to him. While he will give his all to those he considers righteous, he has no qualms about striking back against those who would cause ill, even if they might be considered rightful authorities. He is a man out of time, and adjusting to the modern world is a constant struggle. Things taken for granted are miraculous and sometimes utterly alien to him, and yet he faces it with bravery and grace. It is his duty as a champion of righteousness.

thank for the submission!

Sovereign Court

Still polishing things up but here is the character submission (Mallory/Rai Zon)

Ok, here's my scratch work, just got time to work on it a little bit.

Jamal Mohammed

Ancestry: Human, bumping Int and Dex, Picking Skilled Heritage for one extra trained skill, 8 HP,

Custom Background: Good Student, Bump Int and Wis, Trained in Nature and Lore:Technological Sciences, Skill Feat: Eye for Numbers.

Class: Wizard, Bump Int, 6 HP, Arcana skill, plus 6 more, which are
Acrobatics, Crafting, Deception, Medicine, Occultism, Society,
And 1 from Heritage is Stealth.

Arcane bond is a simple necklace of knotted string, a memento of Kamar-Taj

Considering he wasn't able to cut it at Kamar-Taj makes sense he wasn't able to specialize and is a Universalist. One extra spell known, can use Arcane Bond Drain once per day per spell level, one feat, Reach Spell.

Spells: 5 Cantrips and 3 1st level spells at level 2.
Spellbook contains 10 cantrips and 5 base+1 universalist+2 from 2nd level=8 1st level spells.

Arcane Thesis is Spell Substitution.

Final 4 bumps are to Int, Cha, Con, and Dex making the final stats

Str 10
Dex 14
Con 12
Int 18
WIs 12
Cha 12.

Anything wrong so far GM? Think I just need to finish up the numbers, pick gear, and spells?

2nd level skill feat is going to be Arcane Sense.

I'm debating what to do with the 2nd level wizard feat, there aren't that many feats out there and none really fit, I could pick up a rogue dedication as Jamal would make for a decent skill/knowledge character if that's what the group needs, or the teleporation dedication. The movement archetypes work like any other dedication right GM? They aren't 'free'?

The movement dedications work like any other dedication, right.

The vigilante archetype is free though.

I don’t see any problems. So far what you have is a pretty basic wizard though. What can you add personality wise or mechanistic wise to really make him pop and be interesting?

Hrm, you know I took Crafting and had the idea of him souping up drones and RC cars online as a side business. Add Eye for Numbers I'm really leaning into the good student part of his personality so might as well go all the way.

I'll take Rogue Dedication on 2nd level and really become a bit of a field gadgeteer, jack of all trades, picking locks and everything. Basically he'd be able to have a conversation with either Shuri or Dr.Strange for about half an hour before he gets out of his depth.

I'll swap out Spell Substituion for Improved Familiar and the familiar will be a drone named Pow that he'll program three abilities into at the start of the day.

Basically he'll be as much a combination of drone mechanic and technomancer from Starfinder as a wizard.

Does that sound interesting? There will be some Starfinder reskinning to go alongwith the Dr Strange style sigils for his spellcasting.

It does! A good modern twist on a normal wizard, that is what I was hoping for.

You'll have to write all this up in a little biography of course as that is part of the submission.

Liberty's Edge

Some interesting concepts being thrown in here!

I’m wrapping up making decisions here. Several people sent me stuff in discord or other channels so it looks like there are fewer submissions then there really is. So if you are still lurking around I’ll give a day or so yet to get things finished

Yeah I'll get on that right now. Thanks for the patience.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've picked the six players and am coordinating with them via PMs, so if you didn't get one than I didn't select you.

GM Stargin-- hopefully you see this before you really flesh out your character and save you some time. I liked your ideas it just didn't fit in with the mashup of the other players that I also liked.

Thanks to everyone for your interest and I hope you find other great games to play in.
