Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther)

Died of cancer. Aug 28, 2020.

RIP

Edit:
Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement.

"A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much," his family said. "From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther."

OMG! Right hook to the feels!

A terrible day.

Rest In Peace, awesome man ;_;

Scarab Sages

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of such a wonderful, young family man and actor. Just the other day, the wife and I watched the episode of the TV show Fringe where he guest starred.

Rest in Peace.

What a wonderful man and actor. I just found out. He was six months younger than me and lived a much healthier life, I expect. Life just isn't fair. May he rest well.

Wakanda forever, Damisa-Sarki. *wakandan salute* May Bast welcome you and the glories of the all realities give you praise, mighty one.

Rest in Power.

2020 is canceled. Cancer can F the H off forever. I didn't even know Mr Boseman beyond his film work in 42 and Marvel movies but I cried over this. May flights of angels, sing thee to thy rest.

Something that speaks to the character he had, he fought Marvel's producers over T'challa's accent. The producers wanted the character to have a British accent, but Boseman insisted the character have an African accent.

That accent really helped make the character. A British accent just wouldn't have been the same.

Indeed. It would have been...very weird to me to have T'Challa speak like a white dude.

Liberty's Edge

British equals white dude???

In modern cinema, usually yes.

As the linked article suggests, a British accent would suggest T'Challa had gone to school in Britain - which is (or at least was) common for privileged Africans. But would make no real sense for someone from the most advanced nation in the world.

It would make sense if he wanted to keep a low profile and blend in with other Africans on the world stage - and until the events of BP Wakanda kept a low profile.

Let's not derail this tribute to Chadwick Boseman with debates about whether or not he should have made different choices when playing his characters.

Yeah. Let's just enjoy the fact he gave us a T'Challa we can all be proud of.
