Wounded and Hero Point

Rules Discussion

Hello
I'm a starter dungeon master of Pathfinder 2ed and it has appeared one doubt on my second session. During a specially complicated combat, the barbarian of the group got the Wounded 3 condition. Envolved by courage and rage, he decided not to retreat and then he received a critical attack and fell. At this moment he still had a Hero Point.
My doubt is: Is it possible to spend a Hero Point when the Wounded condition would go up the level of the Dying condition, so, avoiding a death, or would he automatically fall to the dying 4 condition and so, not having the chance to avoid the death with the Hero Point?
The session ended at this exact moment. Can the barbarian be saved or should i start the preparations of the funeral?

Spend all your Hero Points (minimum 1) to avoid death. You can do this when your dying condition would increase. You lose the dying condition entirely and stabilize with 0 Hit Points. You don’t gain the wounded condition or increase its value from losing the dying condition in this way, but if you already had that condition, you don’t lose it or decrease its value.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

So, as described above, the barbarian would use up the Hero Point, would still be alive, at 0 hit points, does not have dying, and would still have wounded 3.

He would gain Dying 1, then dying would increase by an amount equal to his wounded value. The hero points can be spent when his dying value increases, ergo as the other have said he can spend his heropoint to stablize (remain unconscious). Of course this means they are in real danger of going down if anyone attacks them or an AoE goes off near by, heck even if an overly zealous alchemist throws a bomb and doesn't negate splash :P

Thanks for the answers. The barbarian will survive.

Yeah, adventuring while wounded is not exactly a great decision. Even moreso when wounded 2 or 3.

My party has had some seriously tense moments and do anything to try and avoid going down in combat now.

No deaths yet, but a couple of close calls and the knowledge that resurrection wasn't on the table for them had them change to far less cavalier tactics overall -laughs-
