My group is going to try out pathfinder 2e starting next week! we are going to play two level zero one shots, and then if we like one of the two a lot we are going to continue it onto a full campaign.
we are using the level 0 rules from the game masters guide, with the apprentice thing where we get some features from a class.
we have been playing mostly dnd 5e for a while, and I am exited to try out the new system! I was wondering if you had any suggestions for what type of characters would be good for getting a good feeling for the system?
For one character; I am SUPER interested by the whole athletics system, it being able to trip and push and all that as basic abilities sound fun! So I am thinking one of my character's will be a martial with athletics and intimidation. Not sure what ancestry, class, or weapon though.
I have no idea what the other character should be.
Any ideas or tips? I want to get a good feel for the system!

I like the fighter for Athletics and Intimidation. Personally, I prefer to emphasize athletics since it has a natural synergy with your primary statistic (Strength) anyway. I am currently playing a fighter with a reach weapon (guisarme) making opportunity attacks and athletics particularly dangerous. With a reach weapon, you control a huge portion of the battlefield, and when you trip, the thing you are fighting must spend a move action standing (provoking an attack of opportunity) and then a 2nd action to close with you. Using this method, you can steal 2 actions from an opponent each turn.
As for the 2nd player, I personally would recommend a class with some healing ability. The druid has fantastic healing, access to primal spells (my favorite magical realm), and if you like, can take a pet. The druid pets can be lethal. They don't take a lot of damage, but they can deal excellent damage, provide flanking, and have other static effects you can use.
Both characters should train in medicine for out of combat healing, and preferably also have the Battle Medicine feat.

Awesome thank you! athletics sounds like a good focus! the guisarme looks super cool! I think ill check that one out! The other ones I was looking out were the bastard sword/gauntlet combo, and the meteor hammer. ill start with the guisarme!
druid sounds like a good one for the second character! ill try that out!
any tips on ancestry?
Thanks for the help!

Pathfinder2e is flexible enough that any ancestry does well with any class especially if you use the optional flaw system to get the main stat up to 18. Even without that a character with a 16 in their main stat is perfectly great.
For a Fighter though I'd suggest human as the ancestry feat Natural Ambition, which gets you an extra class feat is just too good. Heritages like half elf and half orc work great with that.

If the campaign is set to get to higher levels then I would say Barbarian or Monk for an athletics character. They have in built feat support and decent attack options that keep those hands free (or even give you attacks with the manoeuvre traits.) Monks can do big throws for example and a barbarian can pick up a dragon and hit another dragon with it.

Fighter is a good combo with athletics early on - mostly due to the fact that tripping is a very natural combo with Attack of Opportunity. Fighter also gets extra accuracy with weapons with doesn't really help with athletics but is still nice to have. Later other classes are more solid as has been noted.
There are also interesting off-brand athletics build in the form of dex-based characters using a whip to trip enemies. Bard is one of my favorites for this.

If you want to specialize with a single category of weapons, consider to go with the fighter class:
Fighter Weapon Mastery - Level 5
Hours spent training with your preferred weapons, learning and developing new combat techniques, have made you particularly effective with your weapons of choice. Choose one weapon group. Your proficiency rank increases to master with the simple and martial weapons in that group, and to expert with the advanced weapons in that group. You gain access to the critical specialization effects (page 283) of all weapons for which you have master proficiency.
If you instead are interested in swapping weapons ( there's a specific low level rune which allows you to transmute your weapon in another one by expending 1 action ) depends the situation, or because you want to, consider to use a ranger or a barbarian ( but you will be tied to its anathema ) instead, or eventually a champion ( but then you will be tied to both tennets and anathemas ).

How did this turn out for you? And what level 0 one shots did you use? Home brew or no? I plan on doing this for my players in an upcoming AV campaign.

It was a ton of fun! It didn't wind up turning into a campaign, but was still a good experiance. It was a homebrew adventure
