so there's no benefits to subscribing other than a pdf

Yes, that's right. (Well in my case the benefit is I know I don't have to keep an eye out and I'll still get everything, but that's basically just me guarding against my own slackness, not a true benefit!)

There are benefits if you subscribe to multiple lines (free scenarios and a discount) but not if you just subscribe to one or a couple of product lines.

Also, although it's not guaranteed, usually subscribers get their PDFs before streetdate.

You'll see a lot of people comment about that as being one of the principal reasons they subscribe and until 2020 it was a pretty reliable perk. However, there's no guarantee you'll get that (and it isn't promised as one of the advantages) and every month there are some subscribers who get their shipments and their free PDF after streetdate.

Mine is still pending. My subscriptions have never been this late.

The latest I've ever had a delay was (close to) one month - essentially my August shipment one year shipped the day before my September subscription.

It does happen sadly (particularly around this time of year). :(

Perhaps but you also have international shipping and delays.

If I didnt have other people I was buying for or that this was a gift for I would have cancelled my order by now and just bought from my LGS.

Verlaunte wrote:
kinda wish they showed you your number in the shipping queue.

Me too (once the subscription spawning has happened). It would be nice to be able to log in and see "there are x orders ahead of you" then log in the next day and see that number decreasing.

Part of the issue is that none of this, in terms of shipping etc should have been a surprise to Paizo and they needed to plan accordingly.

I meant the delay of a month was in spawning. The August shipment was incredibly delayed, so it didn't even leave Paizo's warehouse until the day before my September shipment did. (I was late in August and first-cab-off-the-ranks in September.

The international delays are a fact of life and I can remedy that with UPS if I don't mind selling a kidney. ;)

I thought I read somewhere that they try to ship identical orders all at once since that makes it easy for the people who pick and pack.

I would imagine my order of the 2 hardcovers and the AP and Module would be fairly common, but have not got them yet, so maybe they don't do that anymore, or else there is another common item that I am not purchasing that a lot of other subscribers are getting.

I think I read that they have two queues going, one of common combinations of (all or mostly) new products, and one of unique orders. Until this lockdown thing dried up my getting any unique items in my sidecart to ship, I am sure my order was unique every month.

And for the common queue, the order of the combinations is itself randomized, so there is no real way we can game the system to get an earlier shipment.

What determines a common or a I nique order?

A lot of us hoping they give pdf to pending orders on street date at least.

There is mention it's happened b4

It happened a few months ago when the lockdown left them way behind on shipping orders out as of the street date when PDFs were available for general purchase. Since then, they have often slipped past their original two week window but generally not past the PDF street date.

Let's say you ordered some items that came out a few years ago to ship with your subscriptions, and they still have some of those products in their warehouse. Odds are, those items are enough to make your order unique.

On the other hand, if your most recent order solely comprises Paizo items that came out this month, that order is common.

That makes sense

Bummed to see another day with no shipment, but I'm not getting worried till late on Wednesday.

Fingers crossed that it's lateness means I'm earlier in the line for the Lost Omens Ancestry Guide in the winter!

I just wanna cancel if it comes on Wednesday and just buy the pdf.

That's entirely up to you. If it was me, I wouldn't cancel until the 29th came and went and I still didn't have the pdf.

honestly I'd be shocked if I get my APG shipped on the 29th or this month tbh and if it's coming on the 29th, in a day i can buy the pdf cheaper. I kinda subscribed to get the book and the pdf early.

Remember what Robbie Burns said. :-)

Paizo hasn't indicated any concern that they can't fulfill their promised timeline for all non-issue orders.

If there is any real chance they won't be able to hit that deadline, I hope they do let us know tomorrow. I just don't feel like being convinced I'll get my PDFs tomorrow or Wednesday if that's not the actual timeline.

So after 2 weeks of pending order and one expired authorisation, I've just had a second authorisation go through, along with a ~$37 increase in shipping cost. This would have been avoided had Paizo been in a position to ship with the first authorisation. I get that COVID is mangling the entire world economy, so I can forgive them for the late shipment, but charging me for the pleasure? That's a bit rough.

My 10th July authorisation just expired and three random looking authorisations popped into their place, so I suspect something weird is happening. *sigh*

They'll sort it out - granted everything is slower these days. Things like this are nearly always computer glitches (where it's inadvertently switched from "cheapest" to "fastest" method or something).

That is a lot of extra money!

Many of these problems would be alleviated if they had the ability to answer calls from home sent to the Paizo CS # of course.

Having working phones wouldn't make the books ship faster.

It would help with time sensitive issues around cancelling/amending subscriptions and so on. Sadly, there'd be just as many non-time sensitive phone queries I suspect. No doubt the extra stress from abusive CS phonecalls would be a factor, although I got a nice little mini-tutorial about technical problems with phone-redirects when I asked about it back in March. So that could be the barrier. There's lots to learn about the world..

No, but people's fiances being impacted in a negative manner could be sorted out much faster

In the CS subforum, I brought up the very strange situation going on with my rubber-banding authorisations about 2 1/2 weeks ago, so you've got a good memory. Honestly, it's all a bit much at the moment. I get that Paizo is struggling to cope with COVID measures, but then again, everyone is. I can forgive the lateness, especially considering that I live in 'Straya, so it takes about a month for anything to reach me anyway. That said, I really won't tolerate being charged an extra 40-ish USD for the privilege. I draw the line there.

I simply don't like that some subscribers have the pdf, and others do not. The physical book being late is fine with me - they are mostly shelf decoration to me - the content is what I purchased, and that I'd expect to be fulfilled when the order enters my cart - not at some arbitrary date when the order ships.

It would certainly be upsetting if come the 30th, any non-subscriber can go onto the site, purchase the pdf, and have it immediately - while subscribers have to wait until their particular order ships.

It's certainly a distinct possibility at this point, and it's not one I'm pleased with. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Paizo is in a position to change it. I'd love to demand that they roster on a bajillion more pick-packers at their warehouse, but that's just not realistic.

One of the folks I game with noticed that they had a warehouse job listed on their careers page a week or two ago. It's not there anymore, so we can hope that they'll have increased capacity in the near future. I don't imagine they have a mesmerist on staff to streamline onboarding and training, though.

Y'all realize that even if they had more people/less orders there's always gonna be someone who got their order last, right?

In the broader context of human experience, sure, but orders are going to keep rolling in, to be fulfilled on a rolling basis. I doubt they very often have no orders in the queue, which means functionally speaking, there's always someone who's next.

Silver Crusade

Yep.

I'm much less bothered by the late shipping, given the world circumstance, I'm really just complaining that their automated system wants to hit me for an extra $37. I realise that there will always be a last person to get their order, that's not my issue.

I'm also aware that it's extremely likely that Paizo will resolve the incorrect charge. As I said, I'm just complaining; it's the Englishman in me, I suppose. I bear Paizo no ill will.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that this would have otherwise been a GenCon month. With GenCon going online, Paizo is left with a GenCon-sized number of orders to resolve, but now they can't take a thousand of them to GenCon to be delivered by hand. Instead, they must send them via a postal service that's under heavily increased load, from a warehouse forced to maintain strict measures that further impede their ability to process said orders. I don't envy the position Paizo finds themselves in.

What else are we supposed to do, while we wait for our subs? ;)

I mean, the only thing more entertaining would be dusting off the breastplates for another war with France, but those days are long gone, and rightly so.

This has to be the longest monthly "new releases"-thread. I mean, I didn't check, but it's already at 11 pages.

Any day now my pdf's will drop. Good thing I don't currently have a gaming group?

Correct. And that's exactly what it says on the product pagE . Free PDF is pretty cool, to me. We are still within the published shipping window, until Wednesday. No point stressing about it until that point is passed, because someone had to be the absolute last shipment.

I got a group walking in to a extreme encounter on Sunday because they dodged XP I put in front of them. I need that APG so they have options if they die. This always happens with the big books with the new character content, shows up late or last minute. You never see this with a bestiary or GM specific book.

Are we likely to get an updated "end shipping estimate"? Since it's already past Friday 24th, and not everyone's subscriptions have shipped.

(I appreciate all the hard work that's going into getting everything out, I'm just excited to get my new books and wondering when I can expect them to be shipped by!)

They gave this update on Thursday, when it became clear they weren’t going to hit the 24th date:

Shipping update:

July is a big month for subs and we expect shipping to wrap up by street date, which is July 29. The warehouse team has been working hard to get your orders out as quickly as possible, especially since shipping was pushed back a couple of days as CS and Tech worked to make sure all of your orders were right and ready for shipping. We'll update here if anything changes.

We've confirmed that the SRDs for the Advanced Player's Guide and the Starship Operations Manual should be ready by launch.

I haven’t heard anything since. Hopefully the 29th is still the goal.

The charge that was pending on my debit card for my order[containing AoE book 1 and the APG] just suddenly vanished after pending for 4 days. Money returned, and my order is still pending, but the charge just stopped I guess?

I've never had THAT issue before... :/

Does that mean the bank only held the funds for so long and Paizo took too long to fill the order?
