Elemental Bloodline Blood Magic Damage: How does this work?

Rules Discussion

So if an elemental bloodline sorcerer casts Burning Hands and hits 3 guys-- when do we add that extra fire damage per spell level? And what happens on a save or crit failure?

We're of two minds on this-- that it's just a flat bonus to damage that applies no matter what, even if the target crit passes, or that it's baked into the damage and doubles/halves/nils on the appropriate save types.

From quick read of it. If you cast the proper spell then a single target takes that damage, and it appears to be it's own damage not effected by any saves or outcome of the spell cast.

Envoy's Alliance

I would think, like Weakness or Resistance, that the extra damage would be factored after the Saving Throw was rolled.

And yes, it is important to note that the bonus damage only applies to one creature affected by the spell.

The Blood Magic effect only happens to a foe when your spell was a successful attack or the target failed its save (whatever applies).

To clarify:

Blood Magic

Whenever you cast a bloodline spell using Focus Points or a granted spell from your bloodline using a spell slot, you gain a blood magic effect. If the blood magic offers a choice, make it before resolving the spell. The blood magic effect occurs after resolving any checks for the spell’s initial effects and, against a foe, applies only if the spell is a successful attack or the foe fails its saving throw. If the spell has an area, you must designate yourself or one target in the area when you cast the spell to be the target of the blood magic effect. All references to spell level refer to the level of the spell you cast.
