Wolf companions Knockdown question

The wolf companion knockdown power seems very overpowered. Should this be a Trip Check instead of an auto knockdown?

I'm not familiar with companions but if they are like other creatures, if its hit gives damage plus knockdown then the wolf would need to use another action for the auto knockdown. Its hard to see that without actually looking at knockdown in the back of the bestiary. Many creatures do similar so it's not that powerful.

Requirements The animal companion’s last action was a successful jaws Strike
The wolf automatically knocks the target of its jaws Strike prone.

Please note this is an Advanced Maneuver that companions do not get automatically: You need to take Incredible Companion (Druid 08) or a similar feat to make your companion Nimble or Savage to get access to maneuvers like this.

Also remember that companions only get two action, so using this ability basically requires both of them (first action needs to be a successful bite, and the second is the actual trip) and normally one of your actions to command it in the first place.

Finally, by the point this becomes an option, fighters would soon be getting access to Knockdown (Fighter 04) + Improved Knockdown (Fighter 10) combination.

Great than you Taja
