Eldritch Heritage

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Theoretically; if you had a Robe of Arcane Heritage could you use the Mythic version of Eldritch Heritage to gain access to the level 20 powers of a bloodline? 20-2+4 is definitely over 20...

Part 2: If I can't get access to the Mythic version of the feat and decide to burn 3 more feats getting Greater Eldritch Heritage is there a way to gain access to that level 20 power?

So, I'll start with Part 2 since that's easier.

Part 2: There is no way to gain the capstone ability of a sorcerer if you are not mythic.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1: There seem to be 3 different ways to interpret the robes and there does not seem to be a strong consensus of which is correct:

1. The robes do nothing if you're not a sorcerer. Full Stop.
2. The robes do nothing unless you use the skill Use Magic Device to pretend to be a sorcerer. Now the robes increase your effective level for the Eldritch heritage feats.
3. The only power linked to being a sorcerer is cosmetic. A non-sorcerer can wear it and gain the listed benefits. These benefits would in turn apply to feats like eldritch heritage as they grant you an effective sorcerer level that your powers are based on.

Now, on to the mythic feat. Obviously, if #1 is the correct interpretation then the robes do not interact with the mythic feat in any way. If however, the robes do apply (whether through #2 or #3) then it would seem that you would gain bloodline powers equal to your level+2 and which allows you to pick up the level 20 power at level 18. For specific bloodlines there is the slightly cheaper amulet of the blooded that grants a +2 instead of +4. It explicitly doesn't stack with the robes though so its usefulness is limited.

IMO the robes should work as normal and bit stating "when donned by a sorcerer" should just be ignored. My reasoning being that items like this were written when certain powers equaled certain classes. I would rather have magic items be useful to any character that has the relevant abilities instead of arbitrarily limiting it to characters that have a specific class, because the authors failed to future proof the item.

1) Oh, interesting... you know I didn't even notice it says: When donned by a Sorcerer.

I agree the failure of future-proofing is rampant in Pathfinder. XD I frequently rule that so long as you have an ability with the right name then the thing you've got works even if you're not the EXACTLY-specific class it says you're supposed to be.

2) Hmm... but Use magic device lets you pretend to have class features, not classes?

3) = GM Fiat ... which I'm fine with being the GM here. I fiat things all the time to fix pathfinder's stupid.

On to Amulet of the Blooded ... thanks for pointing out that thing's existence but it does not actually do what I want. Still, I was looking all over the srd trying to find another bloodline-level boosting thing and didn't find it, so thanks!
