PFS1 Kulkos Souls for Smuggler’s Shiv (Serpent Skull 1 / 6)

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 54 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Hello,

After Joining this forum a few month ago and immensly enjoying myself, I have decided I want to try out running an adventure here.

The Adventure:

Only the Strong Survive
A deadly storm shipwrecks the passengers and crew of the Jenivere upon infamous Smuggler’s Shiv, an island off the coast of the jungle realm of Sargava. If they’re to have any hope of escaping the notorious pirates’ graveyard, the survivors will need to band together to outwit the isle’s strange beasts and legendary menaces. But can the PCs unite the swift-to-squabble castaways, especially when several seem to have mysterious goals of their own? And does Smuggler’s Shiv hide secrets even deadlier than its desperate denizens?

What about the rest of the Adventure Path:

Well the rest of the campaign does not have the best reviews and I am a first time PbP GM. Therefore I decided for now just to offer the first Adventure.
That said I hope to be able to run the full Path if the players are interested too, but I will decide that only after I see how being a GM here suits me.

My Expections on the players:

See my Profile

About me:

I am 47 years old, a German living in Vienna, and have been roleplaying for 25 years. Most of it in other systems, but by now I also have logged a few hundred hours Pathfinder, so I should be fine.

I like roleplaying about group olving of interesting problems and not about who has the biggest guns or the craziest build and I will reward characters for innovative solutions to problems.

As for my weaknesses: I am no englisch native and I am not Goethe to begin with, So any 20 Paragraph descriptions of charcters or landscape are better provided by the source.

Character Creation:

Abilities: 15 pt-buy, nothing below 10 pre-race
Classes: Core and APG, All Paizo Archetypes allowed
Domains: All Paizo allowed. Includes sub-domains.
Races: Core only.
Alignment: All non-evil.
Background skills: Yes
Feats: Stay within CRB, APG, UM, UC, ACG and ARG.
Spells: Stay within CRB, APG, UM, UC, ACG and ARG.
Traits: Two traits, one of which must be a campaign trait from the Player's Guide. Hit points: We will do max at first level and HD/2+1++bonuses on subsequent levels.
Starting gold: You will all start with max gold per class.

I am pretty sure I still forgot a lot of things if I remember them I will post in the next days But for now lets get this thing out.

Name Gregor Kardoff
Race/Class 1st Human Ranger
Role Melee/scout
Personality Gruff Hunter of men. Bounty Hunter.
Backstory Gregor Kardoff was born to an Ex Soldier of The Taldoran army who had been wounded in battle and a washer woman. He had grown up poor in one of the rural communities near Falcons Hollow, resenting those that 'had' when his father had served and served proudly and had not been rewarded for his service other than losing an arm and having to rely on the charity of the church for handouts to support his family.
Gregor learned to despise the holier than though attitudes when they brought the food baskets each week. The pitying looks. The pride stinging comments. He had been determined not to join the military because of that. He had learned how to hunt, how to fish, how to subside off the land so he could augment their meager supplies.
It was this self sufficiency that as a teen had brought him to the attention of the local Sherrif, who used him as a tracker to follow an escaped convict. This is what lead him to become a Bounty Hunter.

Time and again He would use Gregor's skills over his teen years until the one day when a bear trap had closed on the Sherrif's foot when he was poking around a deadfall. Gregor had carried the Sherrif back to town, and got him to the clerics who saved his life, but were unable to keep an infection from setting in that later claimed The Kind Sherrif.

The Man who supplied him work no longer performing that duty, Gregor began to wander further and further about...at times hunting men, at others performing the more tedious jobs of scouting or guarding.

For experienced players an link to an alias which shows your posting style Keth had stood in the background watching and listening, Woolf standing beside him having been given the command to heel.

He had heard Sgrack talk about coming here when he and Woolf had gone to visit one of the few in town he liked and trusted. He fidgetted and looked at the Elf Woman. He had an innate mistrust for Elves and he scowled. Then he glanced at the Gnome. These Fey short people were often flighty and in strange. An odd group to be sure.

Ahem...Miss Councilwoman. Names Keth Longstrider....This is Woolf...my...errr companion. We will be happy to look into this. Khonnir has always been kind to me. Can you tell me anything about the previous groups that have gone looking? Who were they and where were they last seen or heard from? Did they have anything that would identify them, if we run into them?

The Adventure is first edition and your character looks like 2nd.

I had built him originally for a first edition game and the game fell through. Recently applied for a second edition game and started the build but wasnt accepted.

If youd rather have someone that is more plug and play I can offer up a dwarven cleric or a half elf bard.

No building new characters is fine. I was just trying to clarify expectations.

Would you consider draconic bloodrager from the Advance Class Guide? My initial thought is for bloodrager 1 / sorcerer 4 / dragon disciple. I could make him with just the first level as plain barbarian, but I think it is more thematic with draconic bloodrager.

Dotting for interest.

Silver Crusade

Name Kayalenta Noack, priestess of Pulura
Race/Class Kellid-Ulfen Human Cleric of Pulura
Role Healer/Advisor
Personality Wandering spirit, protective of those she feels connected to (friends)

Backstory:
Kayalenta was born in 4684 to a retired Mendev Crusader name Coneld Noack and his wife, Ginnarla Lesnayatrop. From a young age, Kaya was taught the work of healing and of witchcraft by her mother and she was taught about the wild creatures of the forest by Biolatail, Ginna’s pooka companion. For the most part her father, Coneld, left the raising of his daughter to Ginna, but he would spend his nights sitting with the family listening to the stories that Ginna would tell of her people and their traditions. To Kaya, the best stories were those about the Maiden from the Stars, Pulura.

For the first fourteen years of her life, Kaya’s childhood was peaceful but then true tragedy struck. Coneld was out on a long trip into Silverhall when Ginna fell ill. Kaya did what she could while Biolatail took off to see if she could get help, but when the pooka returned she found Kaya silently holding her mother’s still body. Kaya stayed silent long after and her father began to spend more time away from the home. Even Biolatail took to spending more time in the wilds, leaving Kaya to herself.

During these times when she was left alone, Kaya would recall the stories her mother told, especially her favorites about Pulura. She began to wonder, often aloud to herself, if the Maiden from the Stars was looking over her mother’s spirit. After a while Kaya began to pray to Pulura, and while there was no response she felt comfort all the same. She also began to feel a connection again with her mother’s companion, Biolatail and even her father.

Kayalenta spent the next few years becoming a skilled healer, and even trained with her father to defend herself. She also attempted to learn all she could of the faith of Pulura, and she learned of a few holy sites dedicated to her. Biolatail tried to teach her the tradition of witchcraft, but it seemed her talents lay elsewhere. Knowing that Ginna would want her daughter to follow her own path, Biolatail encouraged Kaya to seek the faith she felt.

Kayalenta traveled north to the Shining Sea, making a pilgrimage to see the glory of the lights of Pulura. The night she arrived, she knew the trip would be worth it. The northern lights sparkled overhead and a firefly landed on her shoulder. The stories her mother told said that a firefly often was a sign of Pulura’s favor so she left it to shelter in her warmth. To her surprise, it began to buzz softly and soon it seemed to speak. Seek the stars as seen above Lirgen, far to the south. Then it took flight and was gone.

The morning came and Kaya figured what she remembered was just a dream, but she felt something further. She found that her faith had unlocked divine power, she knew enough about magic to understand what this may mean. She did not know what Lirgen was, but she immediately began the journey south. After a year she found herself in Magnimar, and there she learned where her journey must lead. Lirgen was no more, but the remains of that lost kingdom was now lost among the Sodden Lands. She found a ship heading out for Sargava, far to the south, and she booked passage aboard.

Link Kayalenta was a character I was originally playing in a Strange Aeons game, and it is a character concept I have desired to play for a while now. The posts I made in that game I feel are a great example of my style of play. Please feel free to check out the posts made with this profile.

Character Development I know this was not asked for, but I want to present the development that is intended for this character. Kaya is intended to become a Stargazer (the PrC), which was the original inspiration for the character. I have tried to include elements of this development in her backstory such as her mother being a witch and the firefly possibly being a familiar eventually. She won’t be much of a combatant overall, focusing on healing and support of the frontline fighters.

Thanks for the consideration. The profile build is currently the version from Strange Aeons, but I am working to rework her to the character creation rules you have presented. I will post again once that is done.

Thanks Kayalenta, Excellent application post, that was the information I was looking for at this time.

If you get selected please be prepared to provide me with a few pointers on where to find good info about your goddess and faith.

@Revolving Door Alternate
I am not sure yet, why do you want this one special level 1 anyway?
Also I believe it perfectly reasonable that the stressfull events in the adventure bring out the ancient blood lying dormant in the barbarian.

The guy I'm thinking of thinks he's an avatar of the dragon god Apsu. So draconic bloodrager seem's more inline with that than plain barbarian. {shrug} But if you don't like it, I would do do as you said and have that be a new development from after 'the events' that start the story.

Are you using the hero points from the APG or the VMC?

Well Okay, Here is my first error. I didn't mean to run it as a Society module, but as a campaign.

First I do hope That does not change anything for the existing applications.

And Second do you guys think that I should close this and rather repost under the correct name?

Revolving Door Alternate wrote:

Yes I will use Hero Points and VMC.

Also I like to point out that I expect Players to have read the Players Guide and characters should be designed in a way that they work with that setting.

An healthy interest in Serpentfolk or Indiana Jones style adventures would also be welcome if we want to play on afterwards.

I would like to apply with Kenderella, though I'll have to adjust her to your requirements. Cutting down the backstory to just two paragraphs might be the most difficult. I'm not sure if there's anything on her sheet that's not allowed either? I'm not sure of the sources of all of the things I've picked... She's going to fill the role of an arcane caster, mostly she'll focus on control, but there will be a fair bit of utility and buffs as well and even a bit damage through her companion.

I'm sorry for being brief now, I'll try to get up a proper post once I've finished adjusting her.

Sovereign Court

Name Stefan Lebeda
Race/Class Human Fighter (Aldori)
Role Front line melle/tank (with some debuff ability too)
Personality Dedicated duelist/mercenary merchant guard/honest and honorable

backstory:
Stefan comes from Restov and is a very minor scion of the Lebeda family, one of the noble houses of Brevoy. Trained at one of the famed Aldori dueling academies, Stefan took his skills to Varisia and decided to gain employment as a guard for the sea trade.

Since then Stefan has made something of a name for himself as an honest and loyal guard that gets the job done. He hopes to acquire the means to go back to his homeland to establish his own household in Rostland.

Are you allowing a Drawback for the additional trait?

Kenderella Lefuriel wrote:

Not necessary to cut down what you already have. I just want to make it easy on people creating new characters. I am more interested in pointing me to other characters of yours where I can see how you participate and post after the initial rush is over.

Galahad0430 wrote:

I would rather not allow this.

No problem Kulko. I was figuring to add some links to the profile when I finish setting it up. Pulura isn't the most well developed goddess in the game but there is enough to give the character a basis of faith.

First: Rather than repost and start over, I would just ask the moderators to take that 'S' out of the title. I believe they can do that easily.

Second: I'm not feeling as connected to the dragon caster as I expected, I will drop that concept. So don't worry about deciding on the bloodrager.

Third: Link to posting style. Lavode de'Morcaine This is a PFS module currently in progress.

Fourth: Since you are allowing hero points, will any of the opposition guys have hero points? There are a few spells that are only useful to hurt someone that has hero points. Won't bother with those spells if it can never come up.

Fifth: I believe I am leaning toward 'Lucky' Linder a witch who will take all the hero point feats and traits possible. I think he will be a mostly buff and debuff caster.
He is going to Sargava and the Mwangi Expanse for arcane knowledge and power. He believes he can succeed where so many others have failed simply because he is so 'lucky' that things just always seem to work out for him eventually.
Witches are not much respected in Cheliax. He intends to eventually go back home with enough power and knowledge to force his family's acceptance of him and his path.

This is a quick rough build. If the group makeup won't cause trouble, I might change him to the gravewalker archetype.

I do have one question that I forgot to mention. What are your opinions of crafting feats?

@GM Kulko

I do have a character that I'd like to use that was in two different starts of a Smuggler's Shiv game that died due to GM disappearing suddenly.
The Character is a Changeling(base) Fighter(Brawler), but since Changelings are not core could I get an exemption and still submit the character?,
as who knows third time's a charm right?

Kayalenta Noack wrote:

I allow them.

Quote:

Not very likely.

I believe a level playing field is important, so I would ask you to adapt him or her to fit the requirements.

Sounds fair, but the original build/idea is at a player chosen disadvantage in power,

since Changelings have an Racial Point value of 6 (vs 10 Racial points for most of the core) and meant for casters, not frontliners, so this combo is against type.

@RHMG Animator
I understand you, but I mean that not only with concern to power but also to consistency of decision.

I want to keep my playing field manageable, so I chose a smaller subset of offerings, and I dont want to put myself in the position where I made allowances for some and refusals for other unless I really think its for the better of the game.

Also with 15 Point Buy I dont think there is that much need for further disadvantaging yourself.

Also with the current level of interest being high and my demands on an application rather simple I will set the deadline at Sunday 7th of June 6am CEST. That should be midnight from Saturday to Sunday in New York Time if I am not mistaken.

I will then decide within the next 24 hours.

Afterwards you will have a bit time to create full blown characters, as I will be on holiday until the 17th of June. During that time I will be able to answer questions and I might put the gameplay thread up so that you guys can roleplay your getting to know each other if you want.

Earnest play will start when I am back from holiday.

Thank you for clarifying a few things. I likely would alter Gregors background to being from Andor and he would be chasing a known criminal fleeing from a wealthy landowner. perhaps the Lumber Consortium. As the Corporate greed angle would make for an interesting backstory. Perhaps one of the crew members is who he is seeking....

Name: Kelvin Parritis
Race/Class: Human Illusionist
Role: Will likely support the group by providing magical support in the form of misdirection and avoiding damage as much a possible thanks to illusions.
Personality: A bit of a coward, but with his heart in the right place

Backstory;

Spoiler:
Born of Cheliaxian descent, Kelvin did not stay in his homeland for long. On a long voyage with his parents, their ship was lead astray in a storm and was shipwrecked in Mediogalti Island. He was the only one in his family to survive.

He and the few remaining crew members lived off their remaining supplies for a few months, but they were ultimately captured by the Red Mantis. They indoctrinated those with potential, leaving the rest to fend for themselves in the capital city of Ilizmagorti.

After many close encounters with death, he stumbled upon a small wizard's guile. It was there where he discovered a proficiency with magic. As with all organizations, they were associated with the Red Mantis and were all expected to serve them as such. Yet in secret, he had been saving enough money for a chance to return home.

Those plans were expedited when he was tasked with offing a dissident of the guile. Instead, he decided to disappear and use what money he had left to bargain for any ship that was leaving the place. It just so happened that the Jenivere were willing to accept his money. At the very least, he hoped that it would be a first step in returning home...

Looks like Effortless Trickery is from Gnomes of Golarion, so not allowed. I'll swap that to the more boring (but probably better) Improved Initiative.

Looks like we still don't have anyone interested in the skill role? With unchained rogues not allowed I can understand why people would rather choose to save playing a rogue for a different game... There are a bunch applying for arcane and martial roles though.

Name: Kenderella Lefuriel
Race/Class: Gnome Sorcerer (Sylvan bloodline)
Role: Arcane caster. Primarily focused on battlefield control, but will also provide plenty of buffs and utility. With illusions only your imagination is the limit on what your magic can do! Her animal companion will offer some secondary melee support as well. As a sorcerer she doesn't get many skill points, but she'll still be quite good at most of the facial skills.

---===Background===---:

Everyone has heard stories about how lusty satyrs are and how they charm and seduce people to frolic with them, yet there are few tales about what happened afterwards. Kenderella Lefuriel was the result of one such union. Her mother Scintilla had once been an adventurer and sorceress, journeying through the jungle in search for excitement and new experiences, but she got captured by a group of capricious satyrs. With them she found all the excitement she could ever want and she decided to stay. Inevitably she got pregnant and the result was Kenderella. As could be expected when living with mates with a permanent erection, Kenderella was only the first of many. Most of the children were full-blood satyrs, but some were female gnomes like Kenderella.

Growing up amongst the satyrs was weird, there was constant celebration. The satyrs were always revelling and partying and enjoying life. Yet at the same they lived in the middle of the jungle with all the dangers that entailed. They could all be singing, dancing and drinking before suddenly they would all scatter to get away or take up arms to fight an approaching enemy. There were all manner of deadly beasts and other dangers in the forest, but somehow the satyrs managed to thrive through a mixture of skill, luck and allying with the local wildlife. Kenderella really enjoyed her childhood. While she never knew exactly who her father was, she had plenty of uncles to fill that role who always had time to play with her and her siblings.

Like her mother, Kenderella developed a strong talent for magic. Magic flows in the blood, and breeding with magical creatures has not made it weaker. She developed a strong talent for illusions. The capricious satyrs were always up for pranks and games and the little gnome tried to keep up with them. She could make up the most fantastical things, either from her mother’s stories, from things she had seen in the jungle or things straight out of her own imagination. She especially liked to play with colors, creating wonderful illusions of brightly colored plants or creatures that clearly weren’t real. And when they got attacked again, she discovered another purpose for the brightly colored illusions, by altering the magic slightly, she was able to knock out the dangerous predators for a moment so they could escape.

While Scintilla was the one teaching Kenderella magic, Kenderella didn’t get to spend much time otherwise with her mother. The older gnome woman was almost always busy with Kenderella’s siblings or uncles, taking care of their needs and desires.

Instead Kenderella spent a lot of time with her uncles and siblings. She was especially close to Remelus, her younger brother. They were the two oldest and less than a year apart. He was a full satyr, but the differences never bothered either of them. Remelus would play music and Kenderella would complement it with her light show. The two of them also often went out exploring the jungle together, discovering what they could without venturing too far away.

On one of these trips they met a black panther. The dangerous predator might have killed them both if they didn’t react quickly. Kenderella threw up an illusion of another black panther, but this one a female, unlike the male they faced. While the real panther inspected the fake one, Remelus played his pipes to soothe the situation. Kenderella felt something tugging at her insides. There was more to this creature than just a predator to kill or flee from. She could bond with it! Fearless as only young gnomes can be, she rushed over to the creature and hugged it before it could actually physically interact with her illusion. The creature was naturally surprised, but he couldn’t get away before the small soft gnome hands started stroking him. By then it was over, Kendrella had already bonded the great cat. With her new companion, now named Enzi, the exploration of the jungle would no longer be as dangerous.

Tamara had a happy childhood in the jungle, but eventually that came to an end. Staying with a group of permanently horny males as a barely mature girl wasn’t only pleasant. She wasn’t ready to give in to the lifestyle of her mother and stay with them permanently. Rather she wanted to see the world, in part driven by her mother’s stories, in part by her natural curiosity, but she also felt an ever growing wanderlust. With mixed feelings Tamara said goodbye to her family and set out into the world.

Travelling at random, she eventually made it to Port Peril in the shackles. There she met a friendly halfling that called himself Epar. He offered her to stay at his place and he even had a kennel that was able to house her companion. Gullible, she happily took the offer. Kenderella didn’t remember what exactly she drank, but she remembers waking up naked and chained to Epar’s bed. Losing her virginity was painful, but the sadistic halfling didn’t show mercy and just kept going harder when he saw blood. Concentrating on anything was hard and Kenderella could only endure.

After an indeterminate amount of time had passed, with Kenderella losing consciousness several times, she was finally let up to relieve herself. Freed from her shackles, she somehow managed to gather her wits enough to knock down Epar with her magic. Luckily he had the keys to the cages on his person and Kenderella hoped that the other animals she let out would keep him too busy to pursue her.

With the awful experience of betrayal in her luggage, Kenderella decided to head back to the jungle. She still wanted to seek new experiences and places, but realized that a pirate town was not the place for her. She was bound to the jungle and would be safer there. Boarding the first ship she found going back, she hoped she could find some better friends than this Epar. Facing her challenges without people watching her back would be impossible.

---===Appearance and Personality===---:

picture
Eyes:Pink
Hair:Rainbow colored
Skin:Tanned
Height: 3’1”
Weight: 33 lbs

Kenderella's personality is normally as bright and cheery as her hair. She's always eager to try new and interesting things. Lately her enthusiasm is a bit tempered by the horrible events in the shackles, but hopefully she can regain it quickly enough.

The little gnome loves to get to know new people and work to form a deeper connection with her companions. She's also eager to explore more of the world and to see what she can find.

---===Goals, Secrets, Connections & Memories===---:

Goals:
1. To experience new and interesting things. In order to stave of the bleaching, gnomes need to experience new things, travelling is a good way to ensure that happens.
2. To find friends or even lovers. She knows her mother is happy with her group and she wants something similar for herself, to be cherished by others and love them in turn.

Secrets:
Known: Kenderella knows most people don’t grow up amongst satyrs. She’s keeping her upbringing and the satyr half of her family a secret.
Unknown: Scintilla abandoned her adventuring group to stay with the satyrs. A short while after, one of them died, a female human cleric named Amalie. The rest of Scintilla’s group blames the gnome for the death of Amalie and the subsequent disbandment of the group. Especially Eric, a chelish human rogue, Amalie’s former lover is bitter over what happened. While he changed vocation to become a trader and occasional smuggler, he wouldn’t mind getting back at Scintilla…

Connections
Scintilla Lefuriel, mother and master of Kenderella. She’s the role-model of the little gnome and Kenderella hopes that she can one be as successful in both magic and love as Scintilla.
Epar Drah, a halfling pirate, slaver and trader of exotic beasts. Kenderella might have made a mistake in leaving him alive, but given the horrible things that had happened to her, she had only focused on escape.
Remelus, satyr brother and best friend of Kenderella. She misses him dearly and hopes to one day meet him again.
Enzi, her black panther animal companion. After gaining his trust in the depths of the jungle, they have only been separated once… Kenderella wants to do her best to take care of him, ensuring that he has as good a life as possible while he protects her on her travels.

Memories:
The memory of her encounter with Epar is still fresh on her mind, it’s certain to make her less trusting of whoever she meets. But she still fondly remembers the joy of connecting with Enzi as well and she wants to make more such connections. The memory of learning to use magic to surprise and confound her uncles is also clear in her mind. She wants to develop her magical abilities further, so she can deal with more circumstances, but also to impress those she meets.

Link to current campaign for example of roleplay. I do hope the pace of this campaign ends up a bit faster than that one, but I know reality often overtake our wishes.

Well I have been thinking about that for a while and discussed it with a friend. Since I have already allowed VMC from the book I will also allow the unchained versions of these classes to promote better balance of power between characters.

If any of you wants to change her or his choice thats of course okay. And otherwise we still have a few days to find somebody.

Submission for a "skill monkey" for the team.

CS is on this profile. Not complete (some equipment and other stuff still needed) but I'm hoping it's enough for consideration. If I mis-understood anything, let me know.

for the submission:
Name: Davor Krill
Race/Class: Half Orc Rogue (Unchained)
Role on the party you want to fill: Skills
Personality: Mostly reserved. Due to history I try to stay out of the way and trouble.

Backstory:
I was born and raised in Magnamar by my human mother. Perhaps this makes me a somewhat strange half-orc, less into being strong and crushing my enemies.... But it gave me other advantages that an orc upbringing wouldn't have. I'm slightly smaller than usual for my race, and physically weaker. However, I gained intelligence and training that most of my race lack. I put that training to work gaining myself some coin and useful equipment but quickly earned the wrath of people in Magnamar that one should avoid. To get out of town and danger I took a job on the Jenivere and left, hopefully forever!
While I'm not formally trained to any of the onboard skills, I'm pretty good at following orders and doing a full days labor. I'm also smart enough to usually figure out who to stay away from, ignore, etc. I've been onboard now for several months and have made a few friends and only a couple of minor enemies. (The kind that agree to disagree, not stab each other in the back!) I haven't HAD to use any of my other formal training, and hope that I won't have to. Those skills don't fit well for shipboard life....

LOL That really is a cute game. Makes me wish once more Paizo would have a spectator functionality for tracking campaigns you are not personally involved in.

Silver Crusade

Name: Father Kerndrew (no alias yet; I'll create the alias and crunch if selected)

Race/Class: Human Paladin of Iomedae

Role on the party you want to fill: Front line melee with a side of healing

Personality: Father Kerndrew is a warm, friendly man who is very welcoming and down to earth; unlike the classic "lawful-stupid" paladin, Father Kerndrew has his own moral failings in his past, so extends a lot of understanding to others, and never expects others to live like him (though he's happy to help them on the way if they want it)

Backstory: Father Kerndrew has a very colorful past for a paladin of Iomedae. A reformed Sczarni from Korvosa, he was involved in many criminal enterprises, mostly focusing on those that favored his friendly disposition. Though his focus was on "face" enterprises such as gambling, prostitution, and confidence schemes, he's no stranger to having to use force in that line of work, especially when the Sczarni's interests clashed with those of the Cerulean Society.

His coming to faith moment involved the accidental death of a young boy who had the misfortune of being in the wrong place as Kerndrew was defending a small Sczarni gambling operation from Cerulean Society thugs. After a painful week of drinking--as well as hiding from the crime family he knew he could never rejoin--he sought out the shrine of Iomedae. They helped him escape Korvosa and he began a new life preaching for the Lady of Valor. He's been hiding from the Sczarni in plain sight in Magnimar as an ordained priest, leading services and gently helping those who wanted to turn their lives around.

Having established himself, and confident in his faith, Father Kerndrew has decided it's time for a mission trip. Choosing Sargava for both its savage location and its parallels with Korvosa as a former colony of Cheliax, Father Kerndrew set sail on the Jenivere.

For experienced players an link to an alias which shows your posting style: Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk is a half-orc barbarian that I've been playing in a Skulls & Shackles game for years now; we started in book 1 and are now in (I think) book 5!

Dark Archive

I'm going to submit Marik, am idealistic Diviner Wizard whose been haunted by a recurring dream of his future.
He's currently built on a 20 point buy which I'll adjust when I get home this afternoon.

Just a quick question GM Kulko, how do you feel about Background Skills? They're a way for characters to spend skill points on skills they wouldn't ordinarily do so.

Yep thats fine.

Marik Whiterose wrote:

From the opening post: Background skills: Yes

So yes I think they are a good idea. And in this adventure some of them might even be helpful.

Note to self.
My god I need to look for a new alias picture. I dont think I can stand that silly look even for another week.

Hmm, this sounds good, and I have a concept in mind I think would be interesting to explore. This Alias is the only one I’ve had a chance to be active with, and the character is more than a little odd, which my conceptual character (a naive, young wizard, fresh out of University with more enthusiasm than common sense) would be quite different from.

It would most likely take me a couple of days to put a fuller submission together.

I think I'm changing this part of the backstory. I believe that Father Kerndrew actually hid from the Sczarni in Cheliax--likely Kintargo--helping the Iomedean church there in secret instead of in Magnimar in the open. His inspiration for sailing to Sargava is now more in the vein of fleeing from persecution in the wake of the Glorious Reclamation, with worship of Iomedae no longer legal there. "Cheliax has chosen a direction; it's not for our church to choose to disobey that choice. If the Gods' will is for reform here, it will be for other voices to make that so. They've ordered us to leave; we must respect their authority in this."

Silver Crusade

As a correction to my submission, as the Stargazer PrC is not from an accepted source, I would like to submit a replacement character.

Name: Hewit Nichaetou, Priest of Erastil, and Lumber Consortium representative
Race/Class: Human Cleric of Erastil
Role: Healer/Ranged Support
Personality: A protector of people, stubborn but not the point of foolishness, believes in justice but not vengeance and will stand against chaos and evil when those forces threaten people

Backstory:
Hewit Nichaetou was a young boy when his family arrived in Falcon’s Hollow in the north of Andoran. Like many, his father went to work for the Lumber Consortium and Hewit followed in his debt-burdened foorsteps. Hewit often chaffed under the thumb of Gavel Thuldrin Kreed, but he always turned to his faith in Erastil as he was taught by his mother. The mem who worked the Cutyard were his community and he eventually grew into a true priest while seeing to their wellbeing.

Hewit was a fair hunter and a good care giver, but he never thought to lift his hand against the authorities, especially Gavel Kreed. Life was tough, but it continued this way, that is until a young boy feel victim to the poor work conditions and Hewit was not able to save him. Hewit was distraught but it was not until another local, Tabrik Splint, guided him to see the true extent of the corruption of Gavel Kreed. Tabrik and Hewit began to spend their nights planning and envisioning how best to handle the situation, while their days were spent caring for the townsfolk to keep the peace. It was almost time for them to act, but Hewit lost his patience one day and launched into an assault against the Cutyard boss, nearly crippling the man.

Tabrik sent Hewit to the woods for a day, to have time to get a feel of what Kreed will declare as punishment. Hewit took the advice but when he returned the town seemed no different, and Tabrik sort of shrugged. Gavel Kreed was strangely quiet, even civil, about the situation. The new boss of the Cutyard told Hewit to meet with Kreed as soon as he was able. Hewit began to sweat hearing this and Tabrik even suggesting fleeing town. While they discussed what good could come from staying versus what would happen if he fled, the truth came in the form of Tabrik’s off-again lover Magistrate Vamros Harg.

”I feel I must advise you against fleeing, my friend.” the halfling magistrate said. ”Boss Kreed is not a foolish man, and he knows if he takes action against you directly it may be costly to him, but he knows if he leaves you here it may be worse. Yet he also knows if he lets you flee without punishment, you become a martyr of sorts, so if you should flee he will turn his ire against the ‘Jaks.”

”I do bring hope though,” Vamros continues with a pleading smile towards Tabrik. ”Boss Kreed will not be harming you, but rather a sort of promotion. He will be placing you on the delivery team bringing a load of darkwood through to Varisia, and maybe beyond. He is removing you, without removing you. And I suggest you take the position. The alternatives may be worse for you, and for the men on the Cutyard.”

Tabrik, Hewit, and now Vamros talked into the night about what to do. Vamros showed more metal against Kreed than ever before, though Hewit suspected it would be short lived. Tabrik eventually saw the truth of the matter, Kreed was too powerful for Hewit to take on now. ”Better to take the chance and live, to possibly return some day and become the hero of the people he was destined to be.”

Hewit took the “promotion” when Kreed offered it, and began to head out for Varisia along with the representative of the Lumber Consortium who was in charge of selling off the planks of highly demanded wood. As a parting gift, Tabrik had a local woodsman craft a special new bow for Hewit, one dedicated to his faith in Erastil. ”You still serve this community, but for now that service requires you to take a different path home. Staying would simply be the path of a fool… For now.”

As for the example links, I submit the original ones for Kayalenta from before.

Character Development: Hewit’s main focus will be healing, but will eventually get an animal companion as well (at level thanks to the Feather Domain). His ranged attacks will be secondary to keeping the more combat focused alive and well, either via direct healing or support spells. He may also take the Craft Arms and Armor feat later, but I am open to review that at the time it comes up.

Thanks again for the chance to submit, and the chance to change things up. Good luck to all who apply.

Deadline is Sunday 7th of June 6am CEST. That should be midnight from Saturday to Sunday in New York Time if I am not mistaken.

As for the application, please check the opening post. I think a valid application should take no longer than an hour.

@ Hewit/Kayalenta and Zin:
Change is noted.

@ Amboy:
Is that dot an official Application? I assume so since he clearly is a character made for the Adventure but I would like to know for sure.

I can rebuild Kendrella to a heaven's oracle if desired.

Name: Marthkus Malindroit
Race/Class: Human, Fighter (archetype tbd)- heading towards Aldori Sword Lord prestige class
Role on the party you want to fill: Marthkus is a front line fighter who will charge in and rely on his nimbleness to avoid being hit/killed
Personality: Called, the Luckiest Man in Brevoy, Marthkus has a light wit, and a cheerful heart, always ready to defend a comrade or diffuse a situation

Backstory (About 2 Paragraphs): Marthkus grew up in Brevoy, and dreamed his whole life of wielding the famed Aldori dueling blade. Joining with a mercenary unit at the age of 15 (having lied about his age to do so), Marthkus got his wish and served in the mercenary auxiliaries of the Brevic military for several years, gaining a reputation as a cad, a fop, a feared duelist, and a favored drinking companion.

That all changed a year ago. After nearly 8 years, the Luckiest Man in Brevoy's luck ran out. When he witnessed a man bullying a woman in the street one day, Marthkus intervened, and challenged the man to a duel to first blood. He was riding high, a crowd watching him embarrass the man handily, leaving a humiliating scar on his face, to the cheers of the crow. Unfortunately, this man was a high noble of House Surtova and Marthkus found his commission revoked, and himself an outlaw in his home land.

Signing on as a guard aboard a cargo vessel, Marthkus has left Brevoy behind him to earn his fortune on the high seas. . .

Yeah, possibly a couple days before I can get that hour, though there is a chance I’ll have it this afternoon.

If I’d found the games a couple hours earlier before bedtime... :)

Simon the (not yet) Magnificent, Human Wizard

Simon would be battlefield control, and a font of knowledge with all of his book learning.

Simon is a very earnest and naive young wizard, fresh out of the Absalom Arcanamirium. He is very eager and enthusiastic about this new adventure, but possesses very few practical skills.

This eagerness and naivete, along with his general good nature (NG alignment) manifests in a few character ticks. HE dreams of one day being a renowned wizard, with a suitably epic moniker - his preferred would be to be known as Simon the Magnificent. He also need to come up with a suitably grandiose name for his spellbook.

Simon is from a very priveleged and wealthy family of wizards, and has a very limited view of the world. His intellect and parents' connections ensured he would be accepted into the Arcanamirium, where he excelled in his academic pursuits.

Simon's favourite field of study was the magical traditions of the Mwangi Expanse, and his deepest hope is to make his way to the Magaambya School and further his learning there. Knowing of his naivete, his family has enabled this desire with a place on the Jenivere, hoping he will learn some valuable life lessons on the voyage.

(There could be a good opportunity to mesh in with a martial character here who has been employed as a bodyguard - perhaps with Simon being unaware of it)

Quick reminder in case anybody is still contemplating, Deadline is in about 16 hours.

Eagerly awaitin the decision.

I think I should withdraw. I don't think I have the bandwidth to take on another campaign at this time.
