Real world accent corollaries to Golarion

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

So, I'm like doing accents, they're my favorite part of RP, and my table's homebrew setting has a little accent layout, but is there anything like that for Golarion? Specifically, I'm planning on making a guy from Nex, Oprak, and Numeria. I have a man intended from The Shackles as well, but that's just generic pirate/Irish last I checked.

I think it all comes as a matter of opinion on what you think the closest analogy for each place is . And some are debatable

I would suggest:

- Nex : i don’t know a lot about Nex other than it being in Garund and being close to the Mana Wastes. Garund is the Africa parallel so quite what direction you want to go there is up to you

- Numeria - perhaps you could consider the crash from space and fallout to be a Chernobyl parallel so in that case Russia/Ukraine

- Oprak - where was this carved out from? If Molthune then it is broken off of Prussia/Holy Roman Empire - so German

It would also be interesting to find out what accents people use for Golarion. Perhaps this thread is more suitable for Lost Omens board?

I looked on there and saw... 5 threads, the latest of which was updated 2 months ago, I figured this or the 2e advice board would get some semblance of discussion vs. well, nothing! Also Oprak is in the Eye of Terror, which from what I've heard is vaguely Baltic in it's culture, but not 100% sure since geography is hands down my worst subject. I like the idea of Numeria specifically being more Chernobyl-esc than viking given the surround area being more Norse themed, definitely sounds like fun to use, especially with all the robotic stuff going on there

Oprak is a nation of hobgoblins. What sort of accent do people usually give them?

Klingon.

Or maybe World of Warcraft orc.

I'm not knowledgable enough about Golarion to give you a definitive answer, but I can give you some advice.

Nex: The people of this land are primarily Garundi and Keleshite, with some Vudrani mixed in. In broad terms to me, this says African & Arabian, with some Indian mixed in (I stress, broadly; I'm not an expert in these cultures at all).

Oprak: I'd look to what Oprak was carved from. I believe it was Molthune, and maybe another land? The accent should mirror those places, with some Hobgoblin slang thrown in. When in doubt, look at the names of places, it can give you a clue if it's an obviously ethnic name. An example of this is Lepidstad in Ustalav.

Numeria: This is another example where I'd look to what it was before. Do we know anything about Numeria before the crash? If not, then what about the people? Well, we do know the Kellids are native to that place (I believe). In the Core book, Kellids look like Native Americans, so that's where I'd start.

As for the Shackles, you have complete freedom here, as every ethnicity makes their home there. However, again, looking at the history, Cheliax has a notable hand in the area, and they are Taldan in ancestry. So that can be a starting point for you.
