Acreon Crew and Captain

Dead Suns

Silver Crusade

I feel like I am missing something in this adventure. The Acreon crew is only ever called 'crew' and the captain is never described or named.

When the adventure mentions the Garaggakal it points out the creature has never met a human and is interested. It also mentions that it is interested in the non-humans.

But what race(s) were the crew?

What about the captain? Does he have a name or race?

It seems weird that the leader of the Hardscrabble Collective (We are family TM)does not play up on emotion by talking about the captain and crew by name. Or that he does not play on emotion. "Here is Captain Starbuck's widow and children. This drift rock could keep them fed, educated, and housed but the greedy corp is trying to steal their inheritance."

Do they give more on the crew and I am missing it?

You are supposed to emotionally connect with Moriko Nash, whose legacy plays an important role in the adventure path.

Connecting with two different dead crews would make both experiences blander.

I have not read all the books in the adventure path yet. Does she come up again?

No, I was talking about her ship - it's supposed to be the one the PCs will be flying until book 6, unless they exchange/destroy it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@Karkon: I definitely played up the emotion connection between the HC and the Acreon crew. All the crew members were profiled on Acreon personnel files that the PCs accessed and the corpses/Void Zombies encountered all bore their ID tags. Made the impact greater on my group when they encountered the unfortunate souls.

2/3 of the way through we had a replacement PC join and they were an agent of the HC, so have guided their moral compass to highlight the importance of accounting for the crew.

We're reaching then end of the 1st book so I'm planning a resolution meeting between the HC and the group, and longer term have a meta-plot ripple effect of their exposing of the actions of Astral Extractions leak here and there into the AP.

Oh I totally agree I worked out who all the crew where and gave them

names made reading back the log recordings better and finding bodies with name tags on them.

In the end my party did not even care. They did not talk to the Hardscrabble Collective nor Astral Extractions and did not care about the crew at all.

Well, they don't really matter after this book - unless the GM homebrew's them back in somehow.

Astral Extractions would be a good megacorp villain to add to the race for the space macguffin, with some high-tech private security force going against the characters, hacking their ship, sniping at a distance... it would add some flavor.

Definitely what I'm planning on doing with my pbp group. AE are present on Castrovel conducting corpsicum operations, so at the very least they'll be present in Part 2 (and likely beyond)...

Yeah, they even drop that plot hook in the article on book 2, so it might have been something they contemplated on doing, but didn't have enough room for.
