Humans and (Racial) Exotic Weapons?

Advice

I made a new thread since this isnt really specifically to do with the barbarian I'm working on. It's just something I thought of while browsing the SRD

For a Human character that wanted to use say, an Elven Curveblade or a Dwarven Longhammer, or a Flickmace, is it too cheesy to use your 1st level Bonus Feat on Exotic Weapon Proficiency, or even trade it away for Adoptive Parentage to get your weapon and also an extra Language?

But at the same time it seems unlikely to randomly come across the weapon you want later on and then start practicing with it (taking the feat next available level).

Either way it's probably easiest for a fighter. A lot of other weapon-using classes strike me as a bit feat starved. I was just thinking that there are potentially some really nice options available while looking at the weapons tables. Curveblade might be nice for a Magus looking to score spell crits for example, or a tanking paladin/fighter/cleric or w/e could benefit from the Flickmace's reaching trips to open enemies to other allies wrecking them. A longhammer would be a really nice big beatstick if you have options for enemies who manage to live long enough to get inside your range (like natural weapon attacks)

It costs you a feat, so it's fine. A Dwarf Paladin could take EWP Elven Curved Blade if they really wanted to, it just depends if you want to spend a feat on it.

Having a rscial proficiency just makes it easier for some races (eg. Half Orc Sorcerer with a Greataxe).

Also just FYI an Elven Curved Blade is probably not a great weapon for a Magus, they really want a 1-handed weapon. If you want to go Exotic the best are probably either a Katana (not finessible) or a Wakizashi (finessible), but Dervish Dance usually means the Scimitar is the best for Dex-Magi.

If you want to base your character around an exotic weapon, go for it. Plan out the build and make the leap when you want to.

Most of the time it makes sense to pick up the weapon at first level. After all, most exotic weapons don't require other feats to make them desirable. Spending the feat early keeps you from using some other weapon until you can spend the feat to pick it up.

Sometimes you find an exotic weapon and you start using it because it is cool. That means waiting until you have a feat available to pick it up...or you get a white ioun stone to give you proficiency.

It really depends on your choices. I've even planned out a Rogue that starts off as a bow user and switches to Firearms around 8th level to avoid getting any reloading feats. Plan ahead.

A note on elven curve blades, unless you want to use weapon finesse a martial nodachi has the same stats. And if you want a one handed finesseable exotic weapon the estoc is your blade.

Estocs have a higher Threat Range, but Split Blade Swords have a higher base damage.

I don't think it's particuluarly cheesy. I wouldn't because playing a different race, you can get the EWP you want and get other cool race stuff, too. As a Tengu, you're proficient in all swords, including Elven Curved Blade. As a Half Elf, you can pick any single weapon to be proficient in as an Alternate Racial Trait.

Keep in mind that not all exotic weapons are associated with a race and you're spending your bonus feat on weapon proficiency. Instead of using it using it to get a jump start on a feat chain.

The only time I've taken exotic weapon proficiency with a character is because the weapon I want them to use isn't a proficiency granted by the character class and there's not an equivalent weapon I can use instead.

IMO the gnome trait Master Tinker is far cheesier as it effectively gives you proficiency with all weapons in the game. You just have to craft the weapon yourself.
