Esoteric Training: how long in game time to get 35 fame?

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Guilds are a Fame-based system presented in Inner Sea Magic. One of the perks of being part of a Guild is Esoteric Training (+3/+1 CL), which requires a Fame score of 35. Acquiring Fame requires money, skill checks and in game time. According to the rules, you can get at most +2 Fame per semester, with semesters being 4 to 6 months long. Assuming a 4-months semester, this means that at least 6 years of in game time are needed to reach the 35 Fame mark. Is this correct?

We have discovered this system fairly late, as we are now a level 12 party. Are there any guidelines that correlate Fame to level rather than time, or say how to retroactive apply Fame?

Disclaimer: my GM is on board with all this, so no need to rant about how allegedly OP the perk is.

There are a few ways to go about this.

(1) Increase the number of specific tasks that the guild will reward you a point of Fame upon successful completion.

(2) The sidebar titled "About Semester" on page 21 of Inner Sea Magic does include options there about adjusting the length of time per semester based on how slow or fast you level up. Alternatively, you treat a level up as a semester, allowing you to do a larger number of Education checks per level.

(3) You may want to use the Reputation system described in Ultimate Campaign, and use that to retroactively calculate your base Fame score.

(4) If you don't want to spend too much time doing the calculations and rolling so many Education checks to retroactively determine your Fame score, you can try using some of the factions/organizations first introduced by Paizo back in 2007 (I think) for their Savage Tides Adventure Path. Check out the Savage Tide's Player Guide for more details (it's free to download the PDF!). Just use one of the sample factions there that best fits the guild you want to join, and use the faction's criteria to determine your initial Fame score, maybe add a +1 per every 2 class levels you have if your pc is pretty well-known.

I hope the above suggestions helps your group out. Cheers!

In a previous post of mine elsewhere...

Per this link, TPA (Total Prestige Award) is now equivalent to Fame.

The previous post linked to Reputation and Fame which states:
In a typical campaign, you should gain approximately 4 to 6 Prestige Points per character level.

I think it would be reasonable to say replace the # TPA with (# TPA/5) character levels. So for the feat above, replace 15 TPA with 3rd character level.
