Dueling Sword Swashbuckler

Rules Questions

If a swashbuckler with a level in Swordlord (allowing a dueling sword to benefit from Swashbuckler abilities via Dueling Mastery) uses his dueling sword in two hands, even though it's a one-handed weapon does it stop counting as a one-handed weapon for the purpose of Swashbuckler's precise strike and regaining panache points on crits/kills?

It's a one handed weapon. But your other hand isn't free. So it no longer qualifies.

Don't necessarily need your hand free, just can't "attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield other than a buckler."

Though I suppose I am technically attacking with a weapon in my other hand, it just happens to be the same weapon. Don't know if that's supposed to be attack with *another* weapon, or if they meant it the way it's written. Either way, shame... would've been nice to get that Power Attack bonus

At 3rd level, while she has at least 1 panache point, a swashbuckler gains the ability to strike precisely with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon (though not natural weapon attacks), adding her swashbuckler level to the damage dealt. To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield other than a buckler. She can even use this ability with thrown light or onehanded piercing melee weapons, so long as the target is within 30 feet of her. Any creature that is immune to sneak attacks is immune to the additional damage granted by precise strike, and any item or ability that protects a creature from critical hits also protects a creature from the additional damage of a precise strike. This additional damage is precision damage, and isn’t multiplied on a critical hit.

As a swift action, a swashbuckler can spend 1 panache point to double her precise strike’s damage bonus on the next attack. This benefit must be used before the end of her turn, or it is lost. This deed’s cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the amount of panache points a deed costs (such as the Signature Deed feat).

I don't know if there's been an FAQ or anything, but that's the text.

I’d say if you attacked with a weapon two handed, then you used the other hand to attack with a weapon.

I would say your use of technically is not needed to make the sentence factual.

You're attacking with a weapon in your hand. Doesn't get simpler than that.

For comparison:

Critical Hit with a Light or One-Handed Piercing Melee Weapon: Each time the swashbuckler confirms a critical hit with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon, she regains 1 panache point. Confirming a critical hit on a helpless or unaware creature or a creature that has fewer Hit Dice than half the swashbuckler’s character level doesn’t restore panache.

Killing Blow with a Light or One-Handed Piercing Melee Weapon: When the swashbuckler reduces a creature to 0 or fewer hit points with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon attack while in combat, she regains 1 panache point. Destroying an unattended object, reducing a helpless or unaware creature to 0 or fewer hit points, or reducing a creature that has fewer Hit Dice than half the swashbuckler’s character level to 0 or fewer hit points doesn’t restore any panache.

Note that you do NOT need a free hand to regain Panache.

Choose one kind of light or one-handed slashing weapon (such as the longsword). When wielding your chosen weapon one-handed, you can treat it as a one-handed piercing melee weapon for all feats and class abilities that require such a weapon (such as a swashbuckler’s or a duelist’s precise strike) and you can add your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to that weapon’s damage. The weapon must be one appropriate for your size. You do not gain this benefit while fighting with two weapons or using flurry of blows, or any time another hand is otherwise occupied.

You DO need a free hand to benefit from Slashing Grace.
