I just thought I'd try to drum up a little bit of hype for an event that I'll be running at PaizoCon this year... I have designed a full base-set-size project which ports the world of Starfinder over to a modified version of the mechanics of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.
A few new mechanics and other fun things that this will show off:
-Archetypes: Instead of roles, each character will get to choose from a large array of character archetypes. These archetypes are not character-specific, so you can choose any of them for your character after finishing the first adventure (though of course, some are better than others for any given character!)
-Ships: A heavily modified version of the ships mechanic from the Skull & Shackles base set, allowing for Interstellar travel and ship-to-ship combat.
-Systems: A new grouping for locations, based on the concept of a planet or set of planetoids, which introduce one or more powers that apply to all locations within the system. You treat characters in another System as if they didn't exist for most powers... unless you use a boon with the Interstellar trait.
-Empowering checks: No longer will you be using a blessing on a spellcaster's Strength check to grant them a measly d4. Now, when you play a card that empowers a check, you add YOUR character's "Empower die" to the roll.
-7 brand-new characters representing some fan-favorite classes in Starfinder: Envoy, Soldier, Technomancer, Operative, Witchwarper, Biohacker and Solarian!
-Four full adventures based on the Dead Suns adventure path.
-Skittermanders. Nuff said. Oh, and Stridermanders too! :-D
Lots of other new mechanical changes, and LOTS of fun new enemies and boons to discover!

Interesting. One thing I was hoping for with a Starfinder Card/Board Game, if it were ever to happen, is to eschew any compatibility worries with the Pathfinder Card Game.
I like the PFCG, and like that all of those products are compatible and work together, and it's good fun! But it would also be cool to see something fresh as well, especially since it would make sense that those characters wouldn't really be able to work together.
It sounds like there's some of this in that game, but just wanted to voice that I would not care about compatibility at all.

There's no expectation of straight compatibility in what I've made here. The general mechanics are based on PACG, and you could take some boons and banes from one and use them in the other if you wanted, since the difficulties of checks are around the same, BUT the characters are significantly different and balanced in a very different way, which I think better fits the theme of Starfinder.
The use of an Empower Die lets characters contribute in a more significant way when the character who is attempting the check has a weak base die, and balances out the contribution of a die when a character has a very strong base die. In other words, if you empower a check made by the Technomancer, you're going to add your empower die (let's say it's 1d6) no matter whether they are rolling their Strength d4 or Intelligence d10 as the base die.
In addition, each character has 8 power feats printed on their character sheet (as opposed to 4) and then the other 4 power feat options come from your chosen Archetype.

Yes I'm these will be lottery events, with a maximum of 16 players (4 tables of 4... the game is not designed for 6 characters). However, I've also created a demo-style scenario that can be run in around 30 minutes, and I'm thinking I'll run that several times throughout the convention as well, when there's a lull in the PACG section of the org play room. :)

Been issued a cease and desist yet?
When a company doesn't do their job, fans are there to do it for them, and if the company is as many companies are, they'll slap you across the wrists for trying to take their IP and making it into something they aren't making money off of.
Maybe the board game industry is not as garbage as the video game industry.

I've run this type of special event at several PaizoCons in the past, using various custom scenarios/cards/etc. Paizo is well aware that I am doing this (see the CTO commenting above), and know that I'm not going to try to distribute anything without their permission, and definitely will not be making any money from it. In fact, they've let me write up several blogs about my creations in the past, and do the same for other fan creations.
There is no implication, at all, from me making content like this that Paizo isn't "doing their jobs".
But yes, in general, I've found that the board game industry is generally full of excellent people who are just trying to make people happy while making a living. :)

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread for a moment to mention that this event is still going on, but now in the virtual space of PaizoCon Online! What's more, I've gotten permission from players to stream three of my four sessions, so that many more of you can experience the craziness that is the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game mashed up with the Starfinder universe!
I'll be streaming during the following times (all times PDT, GMT-07):
Wednesday 5/27, 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm
Thursday 5/28, 6:00 am to 11:00 am
Sunday 5/31, 6:00 am to 11:00 am
Here's the link to my Twitch stream (which is totally new and has nothing in it yet, haha!) Cartmanbeck's Twitch Channel
I'll also put them up on my YouTube channel afterward: Cartmanbeck's YouTube Channel

Now that GenCon is behind us, I'm going to try to run a few sessions of Starfinder ACG for those who missed it during PaizoCon. The first session will be Saturday August 22nd at 7 PM Eastern. I'll post a signup sheet for it later today and look to pick a few more dates as well. If you were able to play it at PaizoCon, please let others get a chance first!

Alrighty, here is the link to the event: Starfinder ACG Event
Make sure that you register and then choose a session and sign up for one. Please only choose one, so that everyone has a chance to try it out!
