Priest of the Fallen qualify for Versatile Channeler?

Rules Questions

Quick question.

Does the spiritualist archetype, Priest of the Fallen, qualify for Versatile Channeler?

By the strict wording no, but then there's the note

Quote:
Note: This feat only applies to necromancers, neutral clerics who worship neutral deities, or neutral clerics who do not worship a deity—characters who have the channel energy class ability and have to make a choice to channel positive or negative energy at 1st level. Clerics whose alignment or deity makes this choice for them cannot select this feat.

IMO this makes it clear it's meant to apply to neutral priests of the fallen.

For a moment, I was rather happy.

Then I read the next 3 words after the bold portion and it killed my hopes as priest of the fallen gets the choice at level 3 whereas the feat says 1st level.

Back to the drawing board I guess...

Pretty sure that requirement is just there because when written, the only class that made a choice was at L1. Reading what I think is the intent of those words I think it should work.

Actually you only need to read the prerequisites row of the text.

Quote:
Prerequisites: Channel energy class feature, necromancer or neutrally aligned cleric (see below).

You have the Channel energy class feature but you aren't a cleric or necromancer, so you can't take the feat.

Because Versatile Channeler was released way before Spiritualist or this Archetype was even conceived.

I believe it’d be in the spirit of the feat to let the PotF to use it.

Oracles were already available, and some can channel, but it doesn't work for them, so it seems that the spirit of the feat is "it works for clerics and necromancers".

Barring a FAQ or note in an archetype, it works only for them.

Oracles don’t get to pick how they channel, their’s are very specific.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think you're both correct. By strictest wording no. By spirit of the feat, I would fully allow it and would be surprised if any GM wouldn't.

So really the best answer here is to speak to your GM and ask them to make the call.

Thanks for the response guys.

I'm just making characters for fun so no GM involved. Wish I had the time as well able to find people near me playing.

Again, thanks for helping.
