Vanara Monk Advise

Advice

Hi.
I'm building a Monk for an upcoming Home Game of shattered star, No society.

I have a somewhat clear Idea of what i want to be, but as i never have played a Monk, i would Like your opinion.

25pt buy vanara Monk

Str 13
Dex 19 (17+2)
Con 14
Int 8
Wis 16 (14+2)
Cha 5 (7-2)

I will build an unchained Monk with one unarmed Fighter Level at 3 for the free Dragon Style feat. My gm allowed me to use some of the abilities of the maneuver master Archetype. The only relevant ones for this build is the ability to Take improved and greater trip at Levels 1 and 6.
Furthermore i wanted to Take barksik AS quiggon Power at lvl 4, empty Body at 6, abundant step at 8 and ki Leech (quiggon) at 10 resulting in the following feats:

1: weapon Finesse, improved Trip
2: Combat reflexes
3: Dragon Style, Power Attack
5: Dragon ferocity
7: greater trip, fury's Fall
9: dimensional agility
11: dimensional assault, ?
13:dimensional Derwisch
15: dimensional maneuvers, ?
17: dimensional savant
19: ?,?

I can do the Same build without the Fighter Level and 15 str if i give Up Power Attack.

I Know that Dragon ferocity also needs 15 str, but at our Table i only need to Cheat around the Same 15 str requirement once, which i do with the unarmed Fighter lvl.

Itemwise i would need an amulet of mighty fists (agile) and a Wizard Casting greater Magic Fang (permanent) on my unarmed striktes.

Further items would be:
Ring of ki Mastery,
Monk's robes,
Standardequip(belts, headbands, Ring of prot., Cloak of resist etc)

What i am still looking for:
Flaws i did Not See,
More nice items,
Feats To fill the ?,
Traits

Thanks guys

1. Why are you going so heavy into DEX? Strength is much superior.

2. Your skewed attributes will cripple your character in other aspects of the game for very very little in return. I'd consider a more balanced build, like:

S16 D14+2 C14 I10 W14+2 Ch10-2

This line allows you to ignore the fighter level and go straight UnMonk, and you won't need table rules to qualify for feats.

3. Access to Greater Trip is obviously very nice, but it can be replaced with Vicious Stomp.

4. Depending on your party, the dimensional feats will be more/less useful. Sometimes Flying Kick Style Strike is all you need, particularly if enemies run towards you often.

Tripping is not necessarily great in this regard. Trips are good ways to bring down enemies with lots of STR or lots of DEX but not both, as you reduce their damage output and make them vulnerable to attacks.

However, Dimensional feats aren't good for these enemies because they tend to be in the frontline.

I think Dimensional feats are better with Grapple: teleport to the backline caster and disable them

I don't really See the benefit in more strength, since i will do damage with dex, once i have the agile amulet.

I Know that tripping isn't the Most reliable Combat maneuver, but it is one you can still include in your flurry of blows, which i try to almost Always die Later on with dimensional derwish.

It is also th reasion i Take Power Attack and Dragon Style, to Deal with Trip immune enemies

Vicious stomp is a really nice feat. Would it Stack with greater trip, giving me two AoO's?

Well... The Main reason to Take dimensional feats is because i wanted to build auch a Charakter Like forever... And Just now i realised that the unchained Monk getan abundant step far earlier.

Agile is very bad. Attack bonuses are very very hard to come by, and you are crippling your build by reducing your monk levels and your feats already with Finesse when there is literally no reason for it.

Having sky high DEX = having alright DEX, STR and WIS if you get the same benefits.

Also, you know Dragon Style/Ferocity don't do ANYTHING if you have an agile amulet? It only works if you use Strength for damage.

I invite you to try out the stat like I posted and compare builds.

Sounds reasonable.

Yep!

Hm.. okay, i thought Dragon style would use dex If i have an agile weapon... Turn maybe Dragon Style isnt as good, but with greater trip and vicious stomp i need a hell Lot of AoO`s and i Font Know how to get Thema without enormous dex.

Otherweise dex benefits to AC, Initiative, Reflex save, Attack, damage.

Where Str only benefits to Attack, damage, carrying capacity...

Die i forget Something Others than skills?

Furthermore vanaras have a dex Bonus, so dex Based is intuitive...

Reflex has less value in a class with Improved Evasion, and initiative is not very important for this type of build.

Dex only affects attack and damage if you a) spend a feat and b) spend +1 from your amulet and forever miss out on +5.

I honestly believe that going Ascetic Style is the best option here. You can use a Seven Branched Sword to snag enemies instead of tripping them and get them flat footed to kill them with Medusa's Wrath.

I was ging to get all magical +boni on my unarmed Strike drin permanent greater Magic Fang of my Favoriten Party Wizard. Not +5, but opens Up my loot for better Equipment for the Rest of the group because it is cheap. I wanted to get only the agile ability through the amulet.

Using strength and ascetic Style would be a viable possibility, maybe in Combination with grapple, but i really Like the dexterity build. So even If a strength build is better mechanically, i will Play my dex Based Monk. I also really appreciate that you brought Up medusa's wrath and vicious stomp.

Could you maybe also suggest Other feats which would be viable in Higher Levels or items?

Thanks you.
