Fighter Weapon Specialization & Bombs

Rules Discussion

Here are my assumptions:

Damage bonuses from Weapon Spec add to the damage done to the target of the bomb.

Damage bonuses from Weapon Spec do NOT add to the splash damage of the bomb.

This seems clear from the general intent shown in the game engine. I am having a hard time finding the actual *text* that declares both of these statements.

Anyone got a page reference that I can bookmark?

The description of the Splash trait is straightforward to me:

Splash wrote:
When you use a thrown weapon with the splash trait, you don’t add your Strength modifier to the damage roll. If an attack with a splash weapon fails, succeeds, or critically succeeds, all creatures within 5 feet of the target (including the target) take the listed splash damage. On a failure (but not a critical failure), the target of the attack still takes the splash damage. Add splash damage together with the initial damage against the target before applying the target’s weaknesses or resistances. You don’t multiply splash damage on a critical hit.

Splash damage works like a special property and isn't affected by weapon damage modifiers. The only way that currently exists to alter splash damage is with alchemist feats.

Thanks. If I were coordinating errata for that trait, I'd add a sentence prior to the last one:

"Splash damage never gets damage bonuses unless a feat or ability specifically mentions it adds to splash damage. You don't multiply splash damage on a critical hit."

That's how I'd rule it at my game; I've got a player with a fighter who took the alchemist dedication and is eagerly anticipating doing 1+3 splash damage with thrown bombs.
