Interest Check: Remnants of the Lost (Starfinder)

Recruitment

Though the power of Drift travel was unveiled to the galaxy several centuries ago, the many races of the galaxy have only begun to scratch the surface of its potential. And it's mysteries still stump some of the galaxy's brightest minds. The Drift Beacons that guide starships through the void seem to appear through natural phenomena as often as they must be made by the hands of mystical or technological masters. And the planets revealed by these strange beacons often have even greater mysteries to explore...

Hey Paizo people

As you can probably tell, now that the Character Operations Manual is out, I'm looking to run a Starfinder game. The story would mostly take place on a mysterious planet in the Vast, only recently discovered due to the appearance of a new Drift Beacon nearby. Covered in the ruins of a lost civilization and long since reclaimed by nature, the game would focus on exploration, colonization, and the competing interests of different groups who want the wealth of technology and resources within the ruined planet-wide metropolis.

I am interested. I played Starfinder waaaay back when it was first released but haven't touched it since, and the CharOp Manual looked like it had some cool stuff in it.

Very intrigued. I'll be hanging around to learn more!

boop!

Assuming this isn't Society. I have interest.
Own starfindier materials but never actually got to play it. Buitl a few mechanics, but was never that into the other classes much. But COM playtest came out and Biohacker is just so much what I like. Still is.
Post by Post sounds fun.

QUITE interested, thank you very much!

So when you say these ruins cover the surface of the planet, are we talking like an ecumenopolis? Are we going to reverse-engineer the ruined arcologies for our colony to live in? Or is it more like clearing wild areas to study the ruined structures, while building the colony separately?

We are indeed. Some parts of the planet are so run down that the ruins have basically collapsed back into wilderness, but much of the planet is one giant city. Exactly how the colony is handled would be influenced by what the players decide to do in-game, but the first wave of colonists and researchers would be settled in more intact structures in secured areas.

Sweet! I like this concept very, very much! :D

Seems interesting. Definitely a cool concept, and plenty of character ideas that come from it.

It seems very sandbox-ey. I think this could be enjoyable. I have been looking for something that adheres to Starfinder's published lore, yet goes in new directions.

Dibby Dotting, love to play a Android healer type Medi doc

Dotting with interest.

Yeah, I'm thinking semi-sandbox. I don't like just dropping people in a game with no direction and saying 'do stuff' but I want how the colony develops and what you uncover to be shaped by what the players do.

I would be very interested if this involved some kind of building/expanding of a colony. If so I'd be interested in playing a heavy crafting based execortex mechanic build. This character concept would lean a lot into the rp aspect potential and less into the combat focused part of the game. At points, it would have a strong NPC vibe.

If there is a colony I have and from a Corp medic looking after a container like basic medial center
Doc is like part of the hardware. There to talk to any of the locals with problems related to body and mind.

"Doc"
Android healer. [My use Prist]

Sczarni

Definitely interested in Starfinder - there's been precious few of those on the forums, and I do like the system.

I have a couple of concepts, would probably wait for the main lore pitch for the game before I decide on any of them.

Posting interest, I haven't read the new book but has all others.

What races are allowed? There's a ton of playable races o.o

I have an idea of playing a Ferran of some sort looking to get in on the ground-floor on this colonization effort in the hopes of establishing a Ferran exclave so their people have a more stable future should the worst happen to their home-moon of Ratheren.

I like this idea, and playing alongside you, and science fiction! I'll keep an eye on this post.

Basically anything that's first party, though the more uncommon the race, the more I'd expect out of a back story. That said, I really do like characters with interesting backstories and unusually concepts behind them. If someone wants to play a sentient squid or a pseudo-worm that walks, I'm completely down for that as long as you put in the effort to make it intriguing and fitting.

When's the recruitment deadline, then?

Definitely interested if there's still room.

Dotting, got a few ideas bouncing around.

I have a few details to work out before I finalize recruitment, mainly finishing up with some NPC and mapping, so no hard dates quite yet. With the holidays coming up, I may give it a slightly longer than usual timeline and have the closing date be around the new year so if people are away on vacations or have family/holiday things going on, they'll have time.

ive been itching the play some starfinder. ive played in PbP games online before but not on the paizo forums. have several concepts in mind. how would i go about submitting a character application?

Grand Lodge

I too am interested in this, particularly if we can use the new books.

If it's first party, it's good by me. Once I have exact character creation details down, I'll post them, but for now the intention is starting at 3rd level with all Paizo classes and races allowed. If you don't have access to every book, Archive of Nethys and the SRD should both be updating with the latest races and the Operations Manual classes and class options sometime this month.

Right now, I'm thinking of playing a Human Witchwarper with the Icon theme.

I'm probably going to submit an Android Operative with the Icon theme that makes music that sounds terrible to the Human(oid) ear, but is Aestetically pleasing to Androids and other robots.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Thinking of a Human Operative, most likely with the Explorer specialization. I'll probably be going for the Wild Warden theme as well. The basic concept is an Akitonian Hylki human who grew up surviving in the many industrial ruins of Akiton.

Interesting... I'll have a look at it.

Grand Lodge

I'm looking at making one of the new classes. Maybe a Vanguard, but I have a cute idea for a Skittermander Biohacker too. At the moment I have not decided on a race, and would have to look into it, but it certainly won't be one of the core or legacy races.

I'll most likely play either an operative or a mystic, not sure about the race yet, will re-read the aliem archives to get some ideas.

Weird question, O Faceless GM: Who is founding this colony and what kind of healthcare would they offer potential colonists interested in signing up? My submission's backstory may include something along the lines of "I signed up for the health insurance so I could afford essential medication. Going out to see a new planet in the Vast is just a nice bonus."

Funding is coming from a combination of several corporate interests, mostly the Starfinder Society, Abadar Corp, and a shirren concern off Verces (a shirren exploratory vessel was the first to actually investigate the new beacon), but the Aspis Consortium and a few other backers are offering smaller amounts.

Liberty's Edge

I have a few ideas for characters, but won't decide between them or work any further on them until you have posted the exact character creation details. (Not rushing you in any way, just saying that I am still here and interested.)

Sczarni

Still interested!

Ditto on waiting to get a character concept going until we have more information, though the biohacker has certainly been an interesting character concept. And any colony needs a good doctor.

Would there be a dedicated recruitment thread, or will you be showing the information about the game and the requirements/rules here?

Once I've finished writing up a short gazetteer and summary of some of the colony's major members, I'll post a recruitment thread with it linked and a summary of character creation rules.
