First Time Organized Play at Pax Unplugged

Pathfinder Society

Hello everyone,

I am embarking on my first time doing organized play at Pax Unplugged and I am VERY confused as to how it all works. As I understand it, we have to bring our own characters, correct? And these characters are supposed to be registered? I tried to do that but a) it seems you can only register 1st lvl characters and b) only classes, feats, etc. in the core rulebook. However, some of the scenarios at Pax Unplugged specifically request characters that are of a higher lvl and they allow you to pick alternate classes.

Or is the organized play at Pax Unplugged something else entirely? Thank you in advance for your insight.

For PFS 1 which should answer some of the bigger question issues.

All forms of organized play have pre made characters called pregens available.

Helpful for reporting but not neccesary. There's no official place to store your characters build, but it saves on computer work if you have a character registered and the reporter can just type in your number as opposed to your number and your name and your faction.

Might be a pax thing?

First off, welcome to the world of Organized play! There is a learning curve but once you have the basics down it is not too hard.

In organized play, you start characters at first level and advance them. After each adventure you will get a "Chronicle" which gives you XP and gold. After a specific amount of XP, you gain a level. The amount need to gain a level is different for Starfinder/Pathfinder 1e and Pathfinder 2e.

There are also pregen characters available that can also be used. When you use a pregen you have options as to what you want to do with the chroncile.

Do you plan to play Pathfinder 1e, Pathfinder 2e, or Starfinder?

First off, don't freak out! You're golden as long as you have your Society # (what you got when you registered). You can just use pre-generated characters for higher level scenarios. Your GM will provide them or you can just print one off.

Secondly, welcome to Pathfinder Society!

@Librarina - after a quick look at the Pax Unplugged schedule, a more complete answer is that there are two PFS1 games that are tier 12-18 (part 1 and part 2 of the same story) that you could not play as there are no pregen characters in range. Other than that, for any of the three systems, playing with your own first level character (if in range) or a pregen character would be fine.

The volunteers there should be able to help you better understand the system. We can point you to more information now, though it would be best to know which system/s you are interested in.
