Gunslinger rapid reload retraining

Rules Questions

So I have rapid reload for the pistol but want to retrain that feat so it applies to a different firearm using the feat retraining rules. Under the rapid reload feat it says the feat may be taken more than once and each time applies to a different firearm. My DM says that line means you can't use retraining to change the gun type but I argue that the line only means you can take the feat multiple times so you can reload multiple types of firearms faster. What's the general take on that?

Also, if you can't retrain it to another firearm does that mean the feat is 100% permanent and cannot be retrained to something else? One of my DM's arguments is "how would you suddenly forget how to quickly reload the original weapon?" but under that logic how would you suddenly forget how to perform any feat that you sacked under the retraining rules?

...yeah that's a weird stance to take.

Is your GM aware you can actually retrain class levels? The arcane might of a lv 20 wizard can be completely forgotten and replaced with alchemical insight during just a hundred days.

Obviously you can retrain your Rapid Reload feat to affect a different weapon. I'm not even sure how your GM came to their conclusion other than that they're just now seeing the ridiculousness of the retraining rules and wants to implement something resembling rationality.
If they won't budge, just retrain your Rapid Reload feat to Iron Will or something. Then retrain Iron Will to Rapid Reload keyed to your new firearm.

So yes. You are correct.

Your GM is wrong, but I'll add that retraining is an optional rule, so your GM is under no obligation to include retraining at all (unless you're in PFS).

Personally I think the idea should be to have fun. To this end I've just talked to my GM about letting our Techslinger* retrain their Technic Training (DEX to damage) for free every couple of levels just so that we can explore the different weapons in Iron Gods. I'd absolutely let you retrain to use a different weapon.

BUT

The retraining rules can absolutely be abused, so I'd have a caveat that if there's any hint of shenanigans the GM can regerse the ruling at any time.

*I'm not the playing the Techslinger. It was really about helping the group to experience as much of the content as possible.

Ehh. Most of the abuse potential was murdered with the prestige class retraining FAQ. You can end up with better feats than normally possible by retraining an "early" feat or other option to a feat requiring a high level, but that's a feature rather than a bug--it lets you use all of your character building resources instead of obsoleting them as you get higher in level.
