Errata question dealing with The Whispering Way

The errata states that followers of The Whispering Way must be evil. Since no alignment was in the Core rulebook, I made a Former Aspis Agent(legacy background), undead bloodline, chaotic neutral(CN) sorcerer who is a member of The Whispering Way. The question is, if I have a PFS character that was created BEFORE the errata came out, can he be grand-fathered in and remain a member of The Whispering Way?

BTW, I don't know if this matters, but he reached level 2 before the errata came out & before I ever heard there was going to be an errata.

Unless leadership says that otherwise, changes are not "grandfathered" in. You will need to change his membership. Unless this had any mechanical benefits, you will not be able to retrain anything for free.

Keep in mind I am basing this answer based on past experience with the organized play system. I cannot find a section in the new guide to organized play that specifically calls out what to do in case of an errata changing your character

It was usually allowed to change stuff for free after an errata change. When the Ningasa of the Fortunate Soldier got nerfed, we got to sell it back for full price. Wait, that's a change to an item.

Oh! We got to switch our rogues to the unchained version for free during a small period of time. There were many other changes to classes that got a free rebuild after an errata. I think you should be fine changing it without having to pay for retraining.

I understand having a "free rebuild" period of time, but what I'm saying is that I don't want to change.

Ah. Righty. Well, you can't be evil in PFS. Gonna have to change membership.

Is there any mechanical ability your character had for being a member of the whispering way?

5 people marked this as a favorite.

The Whispering Way/Tar-Baphon is probably the #1 enemy of all living beings on Golarian right now, and the Pathfinder Society in particular has problems with them. It's not politically convenient for you to be a member :P

No, but it wouldn't be that unusual for a pathfinder to study them extensively erm.. just for knowledges sake really! ANd maybe try to attend a few meetings only to be kicked out when he wouldn't eat the kitten.

It's fairly possible that players would refuse to sit at the table because of that character. A worshipper of Rovagug is already dubious at best, but this is on another level, especially considering the year 10 metaplot.

I don't think this will be grandfathered in and I would not want that to happen, some organizations are just a bad fit for organized play.

We no longer have to deal with Rovagug worshippers as the 2E version only accepts NE and CE followers.

No. None. It's just part of his overall story. I mean, his bloodline is undead and he ONLY knows necromancy spells.

Well as it was previously said, nope. You can't grandfather it in.

Have to say that I was really surprised at this thread since Whispering Way and Pathfinder Society are enemies, so I didn't think anybody would have actually tried to have open member of it in PFS ._.
