Are there plans to allow people to play the Advanced Players Guide playtest classes at PFS tables?

Scarab Sages 5/5 Venture-Lieutenant, Australia—NSW—Sydney aka sanwah68

I was coming on to ask the same thing...

Shadow Lodge 4/5 Venture-Lieutenant, Florida—Jacksonville aka Kyrie Ebonblade,

I am too

Maybe if we said “Pretty please”?

Shadow Lodge 5/5

I was wondering myself since I've got a big con coming up in a couple of weeks and I know players will want to try them out.

Myself and three other people would also like to know ^_^

Sovereign Court 4/5 ⦵⦵⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Georgia—Atlanta aka The Masked Ferret

That would be great. Similar to the COM playtest?

Grand Lodge 4/5 Venture-Agent, Colorado—Denver aka roll4initiative

How did they do the COM playtest? Did you get to play the character as presented in the playtest guide and then update the PC to the final published rules?

You got to build your own 1st-, 4th- or 8th-level Pregen, using Additional Resources as usual, with a set amount of credits and a couple other items.

Reading through the Character Operations Manual now, I see that a few of the changes people hoped for were made. Vanguards, for example, were TOO good at tanking, but really suffered in the Skills department. The final printing lowered their Stamina/HP by 1, and upped their number of skill ranks per level by 2.

A part of me wants to believe that the playtesting of Society characters helped hammer out those details ^_^

Actually they always had 6 skill points, that part hasn't changed. They did get smoother handling of edge entropy points. But it was the class that working quite well already in the playtest. I'm a bit surprised the Strength to damage bit at level 10 stayed in.

Biohacker on the other hand, huge changes.

A ton of thanks for the links!

Shadow Lodge 4/5 Venture-Lieutenant, Florida—Jacksonville aka Kyrie Ebonblade,

My issue is the time sensitive part of the play test is just a month or so..the PFS element, if any, should have been fooled out at the same time. While I’d like a chance to play test I fear the current backlog won’t enable it

:(

*checks playtest document, sees 6 skill ranks*

*checks Level 8 character sheet, sees 4 skill ranks*

D'oh!

I fear the worst as well, given the short playtest period. If it had been included, they could have made an announcement simultaneously. What disappoints me, is that PFS inclusion didn't get any attention in the blog, not even "stay tuned for more info". Just, nothing...

And if PFS wants to give players any sort of credit for participating in the playtest, they need to do so promptly. December 2nd is not that far away.

Yup, I'dve loved to give this a go, but with current schedules and lack of games, I'd only have the opportunity to play one tommorow night and then in another two weeks.. I'm unlikely to have any ability to try the new classes, unfortunately.

I think basically, PFS2 isn't quite enough on its feet yet to also accommodate a playtest.

I disagree, and it would be helpful to get an idea of how to acccodate the new classes early on so as to avoid surprise

I concur, but really it’s a matter of personal prioritization preference. I’d like to see

- LO World Guide and LO Character Guide in additional resources,
- Playtest Points working,
- Guide updated to answer all the large number of questions that have been brought up,
- Achievement Points working,
- Guidelines for making character modifications to account for the recent CRB errata.
Before effort is spent on working in something that will only be legal for a few weeks.

Some may disagree. Some may add in “sanctioning the AP” as a priority. Personal preference.

I would just like to see an answer to the question...is the playtest going to be supported in PFS?

If the answer is No, it is not supported, I can then, at least, start communicating and organising with that information.

If the answer is Yes, then we need the info on how it is going to work pretty quick, as it is only a 4 week window, which is pretty short.

An explicit yes or no would be helpful. I expect the answer to be No, because to make it work in PFS, we really do need an actual announcement laying down the rules. And we haven't had that.

Even should we not get a playtest option or hear anything, for those wanting to playtest the new classes and get credit for it it might be an option for you can run them through Plaguestone if you haven't already got credit for that, since it is in campaign mode.

That's a nifty option, Richard. I just likely won't have time for more than one session of Playtest this month, so like Robert I am hoping for a PFS blog today. This will work if they time it to go out before or at the same time as the Twitch Pathfinder Friday episode on the Playtest.

Hmm

A forum post would be enough, together with a short Email to all the RVCs, though considering how busy they are, I won't really request anything.

Of we are honest, a free playtest or doing some encounters from the AP should produce enough viable data.

What I expect from the org play crowd is to give feedback on how they would like those characters to be able to perform in withing the constraints of a scenario etc.

Things like:

"The way this ability is written makes it a really bad fit for org play and this tiny tweak would change that" or "In my lodge players are big fans of X, and that could totally work for the class with a slight change".

So, is there any word if this is legal for Pathfinder Society?

Hi! After carefully weighing a variety of factors (such as the burden on GMs still grappling with a new set of rules), the Organized Play team has decided that it's not in the best interest of the campaign to have playtest characters participating in official Pathfinder Society games at this time.

If you're interested in earning Pathfinder Society credit for participating in the playtest, I highly recommend playing Fall of Plaguestone and downloading the free sanctioning document for it on the adventure's product page. You can play a playtest character through the adventure and then apply the credit to a Pathfinder Society character of your choice when you're done.

Unfortunate given how limited of a timespan this playtest is.

I don't think thats the case. And I'm certain the Organized Play crowd would be able to give incredibly valuable information and feedback.

I'd love to get a chance to not only play one of these classes, but to be able to give them some feedback from my play experience. For folks like me, PFS is the ONLY chance I have to play 2E at all.

I didn't mean that PFS2 couldn't provide valuable feedback. I mean that the overall organization of the PFS2 campaign still has such a backlog of other issues that need solving, that it would not be a good idea to add even more to the load right now.
